I pretty much stuck with the bulk of Rolling Stones,Black Sabbath,Who and Dire Straits SHM SACD's and am pleased with the results.
Anything else I need to get while the yen/dollar rate is in my favor?

Do you like jazz? I like the Coltrane and Bill Evans discs.

Yes, the Bill Evans Trio offerings are fantastic.

  5. Claus needs to repost his list in this new thread. It's a great starting point for someone new to SHM-SACDs.

I'm really bummed the Sabbath catalog wasn't completed. At the very least we still need Sabotage.

Glad to see this thread come back for a part 3 although wouldn't it be nice if there were new titles to discuss.

I have all the Rolling Stones except Their Satanic Majesties Request (have that on domestic SACD)
All of The Who except My Generation (I also have that on the domestic SACD but I am considering it for the Mono)
    All of the Diana Krall
    All if the Dire Straits
Then a bunch of others : Both Mike Oldfield's, Elton's GYBR, Stevie Wonder- SITKoL and Talking Book; Olivia N-J Come on Over, Clapton 461 OB, Steely Dan Aja, Bill Evans - Montreux - Sunday Night VV- Waltz for Debbie, & Affinity. Cream- And a number of other rock titles.

I am really not into Sabbath and the one that I would most be interested (Paranoid) in is rated low my many here - funny because on SA-CD.net most review are positive and there are a lot same on the Acoustic Sounds site. I did buy Sabbath Bloody Sabbath when I found one for a relatively low price - sound is good I will have to give the music more time.

I even bought one Caravan Land of Pink and Grey mainly because of its "outstanding" rating by several posters here - I agree it sounds great this group and album was totally new to me I have never heard of them before. Kind of funny music whimsical I guess one would say.

I have not bought it but I was really hoping the Queen Greatest Hits vol. 1 would be great but it seems all the Queen titles have been nothing special according to you guys who have reviewed here so I have stayed away.

I have enough bonus points a CDJapan to give me a good price if I buy one more I just don't know what title to get. I may well be my last.

Get Steely Dan's Gaucho! It is the better-sounding digital version of this album.

The Queen SHM-SACDs are just copies of the 2010 remasters.

The Rolling Stones ones -for the ABKCO years- are just copies of the 2002 remasters (although some have said there are differences in sound).

Gentle Giant 'Octopus' on SHM-CD is the definitive version, according to a thread on here. I can't seem to track it down but it compares very favourably to the original UK vinyl.

An SHM-CD can never be the definitive version, if you ask me. Because CD don't have definitive resolution.

Claus, at the time I reviewed the Creedence SHM-SACD, you made an short statement: "not worth the money, Imo".
How will you describe the sound on the SHM-SACD vs Steve's SACD ?
And why does it not appear on your list?

    :)

If any of the Analogue Productions CCRs have been matched (or beaten) by SHM-SACDs then I'd be shocked. Hoffman's CCRs are magical. I'd guess that Steve may be able to slightly improve upon them using his latest and greatest DSD know-how, but it would take some mighty fine work for him or anyone else.

I never had the CCR... I've heard so many CCR pressings (mostly Georg Horn mastering) and nothing comes close to the AP or DCC reissues. Do you like the SHM-SACD?

Sure it can. Not everything is out on hi-rez digital, and some albums that are are poorly mastered. Not everything is good on vinyl or easy to obtain on quality vinyl.

Yes, I like it. The DSD transfer was done at Fantasy studios in 2007. The transfer from analogue to DSD is nicely done. It's very analogue in sound, warm, clear and extended. With extended, I not mean bright (it's not bright at all), but a kind of space/atmosphere that is very vivid.

I have not Bayou Country by Analogue Productions, so can't compare. But I have four others of the CCR SACD, all most excellent in sound.

I don't have the volume or diversity of shm sacds that you have.

    However, IMO,
I would place two Rolling Stones sacds in the "outstanding" category: Sticky Fingers and Undercover.

In some instances, Claus has not indicated a version he prefers, so I wonder if he commented about some discs in absolute terms. An SHM-SACD of a particular album could be the best version available but still not be a sonic wonder.

Are there any SHM-SACDs not on your list, but for which you feel represents the best digital version you've heard?
