I will double dip. The episodes on the 2nd Season set definitely look better than on the Ultimate Collection volume 2, so I assume the 1st Season box set will offer a similar improvement.

but will the 1st season box have the extras that are included in the first release? I love the original sponsor openings and the commercials.
although the first set did not include the Christmas episode IIRC...

Wasn't this episode held back with a Christmas episode of Petticoat Junction and then released together by MPI?

Since the official first season dvd will be coming out in a week or two , does anybody
know if there are any special features ? Will it have the original commercial sponser ads
    included ?

In case anybody's interested, Walmart is selling a set titled "The Beverly Hillbillies-The Official Seasons 1-4" for $39.96...

Extras include sponsor openings and closings on select episodes, extended version of the pilot episode, Irene Ryan's screen test as Granny, clip from "The Stars' address is CBS"/1963 Fall preview show, CBS Network promo (1963/64), Paul Henning interview from 1969, "The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies, and a photo gallery...

That's a pretty great price for four seasons. :)

Yeah, I thought so too :) I picked it up for that price (Basically $10.00 a season, can't go wrong at that price)...

I've been wanting that for a long time, even more than "TBH"... I thought about suggesting it to Shout! Factory, or maybe Olive Films, but who knows if the suggestion would get past the secretary who'd probably be the one reading it...

OK, why do we only have the first 4 seasons of the Beverly Hillbillies on DVD? What's the holdup? anyone have any light to shed on this...I'd love to see a complete series on Blu-ray, but as long as companies out there like Shout exist they probably will give us an overpriced DVD set if they even consider it....lets hope the original studio or whoever owns the rights gives us a complete series BD treasure!
    now that would be cool!

At least there is some hope for later seasons being released, given the long pause between season 3 and 4 appearing on dvd. I still love this show and would buy a blu-ray box set in a heartbeat if it was done right.

Sales weren't that great and there's a lot of music to deal with as the show goes on.

The show is dated and has a limited appeal. And people only really want to see the first few seasons.

I disagree...I see it as ppl wanting to see the color seasons over the B&W...I loved both, but was really excited back then when they went to color!
dated? No way funny is funny and they are hysterical...timeless humor those Hillbillies!

TV series that have had extremely large episode totals have not fared well in terms of DVD releases. Hillbillies has actually done better than most with 4 seasons released. Look at these:

Lassie - 591 (1 best of set and a few individual episodes)
Ozzie and Harriet - 435 (PD releases but no season sets)
My Three Sons - 380 (1st 2 seasons released with replaced music)
Danny Thomas Show - 343 (2 seasons released, 1 highly cut up)
Burns and Allen - 291 (only PD releases from 1st 2 live seasons)
Jack Benny Show - 260 (PD releases, no season sets)
Life of Riley (Bendix) - 217 (nothing)

I don't think it's the long runs that is the common element- it's the limited appeal a lot of those shows have for today's audiences. All of those shows are 50+ years old by this point and many have not done well in syndication.

I Love Lucy is one of the only shows from that era that does really well in syndication and home video.

I'd be happy with a standard DVD release, along the lines of what Shout Factory did with "Green Acres".
