Having read the article now, it is not as enlightening as I would have hoped. Oh well.

One of the first movies I bought on DVD when they came in really snazzy clear plastic cases.

    As for the movie....meh.

I've seen the movie plenty of times but... never liked it. Just didn't like it. Didn't find it funny not one bit. My girlfriend though is a huuuuuge fan. Knows the whole thing by heart. Her enthusiasm warmed me up to some scenes and nice sayings. Who knows, maybe I'll end up loving it after all, but then I would have to claim that it's a real long-time grower.

I like the film because it is so offbeat, together with the fact that Jeff Bridges gives a performance unlike any of his others. Supporting actors also do great jobs with their very unique roles.

There's so much good material here but it's the subtle throwaway things that still kill me after all of these countless viewings, like when he nails the board down to stop the door from opening... and the door opens the other way. Or his frantic attempt to see what Jackie Treehorn's torn-off note said, only to find a filthy doodle. Or, perhaps my favorite, the Dude lying on the floor with his Walkman listening to the audio of a past bowling match. (Just think about that).
    Brilliant, goofy stuff.

Hopefully they're gonna release The Big Lebowski on Blu-ray/UHD Blu-ray with a new transfer this year!

I remember seeing this at the theatre, really hyped after the greatness of Fargo, and coming away underwhelmed. I was expecting a totally different movie, so it took me a long time to warm to Lebowski. Not my favorite film by any means, but I do enjoy it now when I happen to run across it on TV.

The Coens sure do have a unique body of work, that's for sure.

I'm 50-50 on Lebowski, mainly because John Goodman ruins things for me. The whole Steve Buscemi and Goodman thing never worked for me. Jeff Bridges is fantastic however and makes the movie memorable.

Screened in my home theater. Looks good at over 90" 1.85 diagonal. Was it shot Super 35? Either way, full 35mm content area not used. Gotta keep in mind before making judgments.
