Who Beatles Stones. I guess I spend more time listening to/thinking about the Beatles than the Stones. The Who are light year ahead of either one for me. Lifetime.

Glad to see the love for The Kinks in many of the comments in this thread. They should have been included in the poll, especially as they easily hold my second-place best spot after the Fabs.

Yeah that wasn't the question. I feel the same way about Prince but the Who are pretty close in my universe...

Might be the Stones for me, simply because they've always been there during my lifetime, releasing music or appearing in concert - as much as I loved hunting for old Beatles records or going to Beatlefests, it's different when it's new. I mean, it was less than a year ago that I snuck out of business meetings and drove 4 hours to see them at Coachella, and just a couple of months ago that I watched their new video with Kristen Stewart on YouTube and received their new album in an Amazon box.

Truth be told, I don't own a single CD by any of these. Or Vinyl.

If I were going to try (not likely, but never say never), I'd imagine I'd start with early Stones. The Who just aren't interesting, I wouldn't know where to start. I will never buy a Beatles album.

Stones all the way and how could I vote otherwise having named themselves after one of the all time blues greats songs. Seriously though, Paint It Black, Gimme Shelter, Sympathy For The Devil and many others are timeless classic rock tunes.

The Who took silver with the fab four claiming bronze.

Well, the poll results indicate that most people are sane, anyway.

I'll go back and forth on the top two, but I went with Stones, Beatles, Who. Not a Who fan but I love The Beatles and The Stones

How is this even a fair contest?

Daltrey: better singer than John, Paul and George and Mick.

Townshend: better songwriter (on his own) than Lennon-McCartney and Jagger-Richards.

Entwistle: better bassist than Paul and Bill. Better songwriter than George.

Moon: better drummer than Ringo or Charlie. Better singer than Ringo.

No song by The Beatles, nor Stones can match the sheer exuberant magic of Pictures Of Lily or I Can't Explain.

    End of discussion, really.

    Beatles, Who, Stones...

with the tiniest of margins between them. So much of my favourite music is by these three bands.

But The Kinks belong in there.

    In that order

Beatles - Pretty much grew up with them and most familiar with their catalogue.
Stones - A band I got into later and become more knowledgeable with their music in recent years.
Who - As much as I like The Who, overall I'm more interested with particular points in their music rather than their whole output.
