These aren't my Big Three. But I would place them, Who/Stones/Beatles. Beatles are well below the other two though.

This comes from a guy that has a tag "I hate the Beatles". I like Daltry, he is a good singer, a louder singer than John and Paul. John and Paul have better chops and are more dynamic, IMO.

I love it when people say 'end of discussion' or 'case closed' on this kind of thread.

Especially after saying Moon was a better singer than Ringo.

I mean, Ringo is not a great singer, but he's Pavarotti compared to Moon.

But I love all three and have pretty much complete discographies for all of them.

Funny, I love the Beatles the most but play the Stones more often. Especially the Mick Taylor period. With the Who, I tend to focus on the live releases from the 69-73 period. Man, when Pete is hot he is white hot.

Replace the Who with The Kinks :)

  13. Without The Kinks as a part of the British Invasion in the all-time discussion, there is no "invasion," only a rather rude knock at the door.

That's a good point. Such a shame the Kinks got screwed over in America. Can you imagine if they had the opportunities the Beatles, Stones and Who had? At least they were able to make a large dent in the US in the 70s/80s.

Maybe because The Beatles had already broken up by the time I started paying attention to music. The other three were still around and I managed to see all of them perform at least once and put out new music on a fairly regular basis (for better or worse). I never had the opportunity to experience The Beatles in that manner, so they were always less tangible to me than the other bands.

Oh, so now it's a contest? Why on earth do you feel the need to act judge over other people's personal taste?
It's a matter of preference, mind you, and I'm not going to spoil your point of view that you find The Who superior to the other two acts... Just as you should accept that I find The Who WAY below both The Beatles and The Stones. End of discussion, really.

I like "mid period Kinks". I think the early years were a bit proto punk for my tastes; and starting around Preservation I kind of lost interest.

If we are dredging out contemporaries in terms of timing, I would go for Pink Floyd or Procol Harum. And the various groups Clapton was hanging out with. Oh, and Traffic. Yes. Genesis.

    Oh never mind.

    1.) Beatles
    2.) Stones
    3.) Who

I'd place the Kinks above the Who, personally. In fact, some days they're fighting for top spot.

My personal big 3 bands would be

1.) Beatles(not always, but more often than not)
    2.) Beach Boys
    3.) Velvet Underground

But sometimes the aforementioned bands are in there(not the Who, but I love em) along with the Doors, R.E.M., Smiths, Pixies, Big Star, Byrds, Radiohead, Stooges, Talking Heads, Ramones, Clash etc. It's never truly set in stone for me to be completely honest.

If I can sneak the greatest American band in there. And this order can change at any given moment, with other artists joining the list.

"Big Three" of what? Must be a pretty small rock world with those choices. But let's just assume that these are the OP's three favorite groups. Ok, I'll play:

1.) The Who--Way ahead of the the other two in a given year, stylistically.
2.) Beatles--Had some great stuff, but equal amount of dross. Talented lads who had the smarts to pull out at the right time.
3.) Stones--Quasi-blues band who should have called it quits years ago....like 1964.

    Very easy for me:

    1. The Who
    2. The Stones

    - Daylight....
    - More daylight....

    263. The Beatles

Worth mentioning that the Stones mark II lineup runs them very, very close. But were never the same after Taylor left. As for the Beatles, I could easily and happily list Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, Free and Deep Purple ahead of them as well as plenty of others. To me the Beatles made some good albums, a couple of great ones, but remain astonishingly, ridiculously overrated. And for musicianship they don't belong in the discussion.
