Megadeth did some "heavy covers" on their early albums: "These Boots" and "I ain't Superstitious".

Judas Priest's version of "Better by me, better by you" is a quite bit heavier than Spooky Tooth's (can't remember if it was originally Spooky Tooth's song)

I don't know about the DiMeola song, but I know they did do a heavy version of the Animal's "When I Was Young."

Eddie Hazel - I Want You (she's so heavy)

    Nazareth - Ruby Tuesday

Doro - Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You

Michael Hill - Sunshine Of Your Love

    > Husker Du's "Eight Miles High"

Eh. Their cover of the Mary Tyler Moore theme qualifies, though.

    > The Ramones' "California Sun"

    Learned it from the Dictators.

The second side of the Move's "Shazam" LP is three covers that make the Vanilla Fudge sound like Milli Vanilli in the "heavy" arena, though the songs are not as well known.

Sebadoh also covered "Wonderful, Wonderful", it was certainly heavy.

The Ramones did a bang-up job on the Chambers Brothers' Time Has Come Today. On the same album, Subterranean Jungle, they also added octane to Little Bit O'Soul.

Not to mention these other "heavy" versions by Ms. Jett:

    "Crimson and Clover"
"Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)"
    "Little Drummer Boy"

Nobody's mentioned Grand Funk's cover of "The Loco-Motion" yet? Could throw in "Some Kind of Wonderful" and even "Gimme Shelter" too.

Unless I've missed it, no one has yet mentioned one of my all-time faves: Dinosaur Jr doing Frampton's "Show Me the Way." Not to mention their cover of "Just Like Heaven."

And of course I love rock & roll, which was also a cover (originally done by English band Arrow).
The Cult recorded a version of Born to be wild, which of course was pretty heavy (for the sixties) to begin with.
White Zombie recorded a weird and heavy cover of I'm your boogie man by KC & the Sunshine Band.

The Whitesnake version of this song is itself a heavy cover (I believe it was originally performed by Bobby "Blue" Bland).

Is GP's version of this song on any official release????

I figured as much, I tried googling this song before I posted it...I saw Graham Parker play this opening up for Clapton in 1985 and at the time I figured it odd that he was covering a Whitesnake song, but when he introduced it he mentioned it was a Whitesnake song, I guess I didn't get the joke...
