Quote: To select 75 albums that represent the best of Capitol Records from among literally thousands of works the company has released over the past 75 years, the label convened an advisory board of noted music journalists, authors and renowned creative figures to decide on the final list of albums that comprise The Capitol Records 75th Anniversary Collection. The result spans myriad Capitol eras and musical genres, and includes best sellers, influential works and lesser-known gems (see below). The reissue program begins this month, and titles will be available through music retailers throughout 2017.

There aren't any details other than the list.

    No June Christy either.

I think that Kenton owned his masters. I could be wrong. After he left Capitol in the late 60's, he founded the label Creative World which was (and still be) distributed by Crecendo/GNP.

All the Creative World of the Stereo Capitol albums are better sounding pressings in many cases yet they were still pressed by Capitol You can often see the Mastered by Capitol etchings in the dead wax on those LPs. The ones I have are super quiet and sound amazing. I'm sure you can find many of them at a good price. Unfortunately, the original covers were never reproduced.

On another note. My most sincere thanks to the OP for writing Capitol and not Capital. :)

I'd love to know more details about these reissues but I haven't been able to find any information at all about them. If they are good, I'd actually like to pick a couple of them up but as they seem to be complete unknowns, I'm sitting back and waiting for more info for now.

Looks like The Beatles (band and separately) dominate.

Only one album from Nat King Cole seems wrong.

Hopefully they learned something from the "from the vaults' reissue campaign. My heart skipped a beat seeing All Things Must Pass on the list. A fine reissue of that and Songs for Swingin Lovers would be must buys for me.

I just remembered how much I liked those Bonnie Raitt comeback albums.

Woody Herman also had some classic performances on Capitol too.

IMO, the currently available (2016) Songs for Swingin' Lovers is the best that album has ever sounded on vinyl.

You would have to go VERY far to beat the UMe release of SFSL from last year. That one is damn-near perfect using the correct tapes.

  15. 75 years means they started in 1942 yet the oldest thing in that list is from 1953?

Having said that, I'd love a vinyl copy of "All Things Must Pass". I'd love some others, but with my budget, I have to prioritise, and that's my priority.

I would have preferred more vocal albums from the late fifties. I would love Judy Garland "Judy", perhaps June Christy "Misty Miss Christy, maybe an earlier Peggy Lee. No Les Baxter "Ritual of the Savage?"

Missed a very good chance of getting our near-perfect vinyl reissue of A Swingin' Affair! Here's hoping UMe will be releasing it during this decade.

To start the conjecture, wonder which mixes for "Meet the Beatles" we will get? Same as what was compiled for "The U.S. Albums" version? Or the original American mixes as last heard on "The Capitol Albums Vol. 1" version?

Some of those can't be re-reissued, can they? A few are already involved in on-going and up-coming reissue programs, like Beck and Pink Floyd. Wouldn't they just slap a hype sticker on the already current product? They can't recut Dark Side of the Moon again? It just came out or is about to in the Floyd reissue campaign.

I'm in for Nat Cole's "Unforgettable," George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" and The Beatles' "Meet The Beatles," assuming that last one is sourced from the actual Capitol masters not the 2009 EMI remasters.

They picked "You're The Reason I'm Living" LP by Bobby Darin because it was his best selling Capitol single but how in God's name can they consider it his best Capitol LP? That honor should go to "Oh, Look At Me Now" or "Hello Dolly To Goodbye Charlie".

I do agree with "Dino: Italian Love Songs" although many will feel it should have been "This Time I'm Swinging".
