I sure wish Michael Steele would rejoin The Bangles. They’re not the same without her.

Truly, the above would be the most bizarre package tour ever....

That's the "Henry Padovani Conundrum" mentioned above. If a version of a band puts out one unsuccessful single on an indie label, does that mark them as the "original band" - ie, the one needed to call it a reunion of the original?

I'd argue no. The "original Police" includes Andy Summers, the "original Bangles" have Michael Steele, and the "original Go-go's" have the 5 women involved in these concerts...

Though Derrick Anderson's great, and he had an excellent solo album last year with the Bangles, Smithereens, and Cowsills all on it. And he got them to dig up unplayed songs like my favorite one "He's Got a Secret."

Though yes, I miss Michael too. But it doesn't seem like the Bangles are doing much these days.

From 2000 to 2017, the Bangles did 10+ concerts/year in 10 years - but they never did more than 23 shows in any of those years.

Seems like they play just enough to keep the band alive but not enough to really get anywhere.

Even the 2 years where they had new albums to promote didn't show a lot of tour activity: 23 shows for "Revolution" and 21 shows for "Sweetheart"...

Yeah, that Derrick Anderson album was an unexpected delight...Highly recommended to fans of The Smithereens. The Bangles, and the like...

Oh, I know they keep semi-busy via other efforts - I saw Susanna solo here in VA a few years back.

Just seems like they don't have a lot of investment in the Bangles anymore.

Still, some Bangles is better than no Bangles! :D

Man, it’s hard to believe it was 18 years ago when they reunited. I saw them a lot then. Really good vibe fun shows.

I'd agree mostly except I think the Bangles' case is maybe a little different than the other two. That first EP of theirs is no throwaway single. It's some of the best stuff they ever did.

I agree that the EP is good, but it's still pretty obscure - it took 32 years for it to get a CD release and came out on a tiny indie label (though IRS reissued it).

I'll concede there's a better argument for "original Bangles" as one with Zilinskas vs. the Police with Padovani or the Go-go's pre-"classic 5", but I still view the Steele Bangles as the "original band"...

Faulty Products, like IRS, was owned by Miles Copeland.

I was in LA for the weekend and decided to cap it off with the Go-Go's Hollywood Bowl show last night. Not sure if there was a thread picking up the earlier shows on this tour, but I had gone in knowing that Gina was recovering from surgery and is obviously not part of the show. Belinda made a clever rhyme about this during a break in "Cool Jerk."

The Philharmonic was indeed on stage for the full show, providing generally subtle backing for a handful of the songs, starting with the opener, "This Town." The largest contributions were at the end of the set with "Head Over Heels" and "We Got The Beat" (see the last of my three videos below).

I made three live videos from my Facebook account public if anyone is interested:

    Around 8:30.
But the show begins promptly at 7:30 with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
