    Now viewing.

    WOW!

A beautiful B&W presentation from Olive Films!

What a frightening film, very well done.

"Jeremy Spensser (Martin), the brilliant young scion of a family of scientists and humanitarians, is killed in an automobile accident.
His death occurs on the eve of his winning the "International Peace Prize," and he leaves behind a wife (Powers) and young son (Herbert).

Jeremy's father, noted brain surgeon William Spensser (Kruger), is distressed that his son's gifts will be denied to Mankind. He conceives a plan to give Jeremy's excellent mind another chance to benefit humanity by transplanting the brain (which he has revived and kept on life support) into an artificial, robotic body.

William convinces Jeremy's brother, Henry, an expert in automation, to assist with the process in secret. Because of its horrific appearance, the huge cyborg they've created is kept in seclusion for nearly a year, secretly continuing Jeremy's work on new food sources. However, deprived of normal human contact and possibly of its "soul," Jeremy's mind begins to lose its humanity."

    This blu ray looks fantastic!

  4. Never seen it always wanted to I might have to heck it out and see if it is streaming somewhere. If I like it it'll be on my list.

Olive has released really really good transfers (Invasion of The Body Snatchers) and some so so ones (The Hellstrom Chronicle).

The kid is played by the same child actor who was in 13 Ghosts, who was actually pretty good. This is a strange film.

Didn't that feature Ross Martin prior to "The Wild Wild West?"

Otto Kruger as the old scientist is an absolute, unintentional hoot in the film. :)

Had to do a re-spin of this tonight.

The clarity of the blu ray is wonderful as well is the sound.

This is a very unusually, yet amazing B flick.

I've seen it on and off for decades, on the TV as a kid on the late night Shock Theater, then later I had it on VHS, then DVD and now a beautiful blu ray presentation.

It is pretty frightening in a very subtle way. That formula for a flick makes the best B flick B&W horror/sci/fi flicks IMO.

    Highly recommended!

It's amazing how those old 35mm finegrains hold up. Those are typically a one-off print made from the original negative as an archival element, and typically used only a half-dozen times and then put away in the warehouse. In some cases, the finegrain can actually yield a better overall transfer than the negative, especially if the negative is beat to hell. But the negative always has more detail, so it's a tradeoff. Even a quick & dirty transfer to HD from finegrain can look exceptionally good if the film elements are good -- which surprisingly is sometimes the case with obscure B movies.
