I have read that it was actually spliced together from two takes but have never been able to hear any edits.....

Two takes. 90 percent the first take, 10 percent the second.

    Steve,

Do you know where the edit is?

Two edits. One to get out, one to get back in to the master take.

I know where they are but unless authorized by the Doors, I'm not going to mention it. Maybe they care and maybe they don't but seeing that my second hand info is showing up at the Doors' site, I'm going to be discrete (for once).. :)

    I understand.

Been trying to find the edit for years.....I can't hear it. The sign of good editing!

    Botnick is the Master.

Yes--Botnick is brilliant!! When you listen to the field recordings he did at The Aquarius Theater in 1969--they are absolutely stunning. It's remarkable how good those 8 track live recordings sound.

6 CDs from the Aquarius concerts have been issued on The Doors boutique label "Bright Midnight." Recommeded (especially the 2nd performance--great show!)

It sounds to me like there might be edits at about 2:49 and 3:13 but that's far less than the 10% of the song that Steve says the edit part is.

I'd rather not know where the edit is. I don't could the track the same way if I did.

It doesn't really matter to me, either. If I had to venture a guess (without listening to the song) I will say the poetry part from "the killer awoke before dawn" part to "the blue bus" (and the swearing stuff). :shh:

    Yep.

Kinda' like finding that edit of "Strawberry Fields Forever" for the first time.
