I'm sure your IT is worthy, and WCD already needs to be a single album, so have at it - though hopefully you included "On The Shoreline" and possibly "Hearts On Fire" too :)

Also, to their credit, Genesis pretty much did see that all the Abacab-era material was released in one form or another. Fans can debate what did or didn't make the actual album, but I'm glad the band recognized the substance and quality of all the different tracks from that time. Even as a b-side, something like "Naminanu" is really fun and unique.

Did I post this here already? I can't remember. Anyway.... I recently reshuffled McCartney II into a more digestible 2-LP set than what Paul originally had pressed. This way, disc 1 mirrors the final line-up (albeit in uncut form), and the more bizarre leftover material is pushed entirely to the second disc.

    DISC ONE
    01) Coming Up [full length]
    02) Temporary Secretary
    03) On The Way
    04) Waterfalls [with extended intro]
    05) Nobody Knows
    06) Front Parlour [full length]
    07) Summer's Day Song
    08) Frozen Jap [full length]
    09) Bogey Music
    10) Darkroom [full length]
    11) One Of These Days
    12) Coming Up (Live At Glasgow) - CD bonus track
    13) Lunch Box Odd Sox - CD bonus track

    DISC TWO
    01) All You Horse Riders
    02) Blue Sway
    03) Mr. H. Atom
    04) You Know I'll Get You Baby [full length]
    05) Bogey Wobble [full length]
    06) Secret Friend
    07) Check My Machine [full length]
    08) Wonderful Christmastime [full length]
    09) Rudolph The Red Nosed Reggae - CD bonus track

Radiohead - In Rainbows I & II, I mean technacly its in the In Rainbows Special Edition LP edition but if it was a Double LP it would have been awesome. Also Kid A and Amnesiac.

Vapor Trails and Clockwork Angels would have been double albums in the vinyl era (and the vinyl versions were doubles) so to my mind they're double albums. Rush didn't normally make hour-plus albums so these were the exceptions.

Someone once said that Lou Reed's Berlin was planned (maybe by Bob Ezrin) to be longer than a single LP. I think the record company decided not and they shortened it during production. Not saying it should have happened.

They probably should have kept them shorter but that's Rush for ya.

The Stones had more than enough for a double with Aftermath. That would've been a hell of a record!

If one was to take all the songs meant for Led Zeppelin III, or at least begun in the Bron Yr Aur days, you have a hell of a double album:

Sides One and Two - as they are on the original LP

    Side Three - Electric:
11 We're Gonna Groove - intended for LZ II
12 The Rover - written in Bron Yr Aur, 1970
13 Sugar Mama - intended for LZ II
14 St. Tristan's Sword - recorded during LZ III sessions, Plant would add vocals
15 Down By the Seaside - written in Bron Yr Aur, 1970
    Side Four - Acoustic:
16 Hey Hey, What Can I Do? - recorded during LZ III sessions
17 Bron-Yr-Aur - recorded during LZ III sessions
18 Over the Hills and Far Away - written in Bron Yr Aur, 1970
19 Poor Tom - recorded during LZ III sessions
20 Stairway to Heaven - begun in Bron Yr Aur, 1970

Yes, I used that Aftermath cover for this tracklist as well. Nice flow imo.
Sometimes I'm lacking of time or/and ideas hence my rare appearing in the 'fan made artwork' thread.

Not on your original list of bands, but may I add the Grateful Dead?

Had they put a double studio album out in Fall 1971, instead of spreading what became their core repertoire over live and solo albums, we wouldn't just hear about American Beauty & Workingman's Dead. It probably would've been their seminal album.

Bertha, Wharf Rat, Playing In the Band, Loser, Greatest Story Ever Told, Deal, The Wheel, To Lay Me Down, Mr. Charlie, Brown-Eyed Women, Empty Pages, Ramble On Rose, Jack Straw, Tennessee Jed, Mexicali Blues, Comes a Time, One More Saturday Night.....one album.

Remember those "gee, I wish the White Album was a single LP" folks? How about we give them a triple album? This is supposed to go between discs 1 and 2, as an alternate 2nd album:

    Side One:
01 Gimme Some Truth - begun in India, recorded in '71 for John's Imagine. With George on guitar and lyrical help by Paul.
02 Something - begun towards the end of the WA sessions by Geogre, only recorded for AR the following year
03 Every Night - begun during the early White Album sessions by Paul, finished in late '69 and included in McCartney
04 Child of Nature - included as a demo because Jealous Guy is too different, and not enough Beatles on that one. Demoed in India by John.
05 Teddy Boy - also demoed in India, attempted for Let it Be before being recorded on McCartney.
06 What's the News Mary Jane? - Anthology 3 version, cut out after first three minutes or so.
07 Look at Me - also begun in India, but only brought back when John was recording Plastic Ono Band in 1970.
08 The Long and Winding Road - written by Paul towards the end of the WA sessions, and brought back for the Get Back recordings. The LiB version with the orchestra, of course.
    Side Two:
09 Across the Universe - pre-India, but fits better in here time-wise than Let it Be, so here it stays. Used in the rootsier version from Anthology 2, so it fits in much better.
10 Maxwell's Silver Hammer - with the Anthology 3 intro added, also written for the WA but left for later, tried for LiB but used in Abbey Road.
11 Mean Mr. Mustard - India reject, made part of the medley in AR. It still segues to Polythene Pam in here.
12 Polythene Pam - written in India by John, it fades out instead of segueing into SCITTBW.
13 Singalong Junk - written in India, mashup of the two versions on McCartney into a single 2:47 piece, courtesy of me
14 Not Guilty - Anthology 3 version, with 30 secs of the later section of WTNMJ? added in as a coda, for purpouses of jumpscaring.
15 Hey Jude - the lead single from the session, from Past Masters, as is tradition.

i like the albums they did just fine. i like double albums as a rule, so long as there is the material there to do it, without it being watered down

See, I dunno..... when I listened to the CD (with the bonus tracks), it felt like the main body of "Coda" worked as a coherent album - and the BBC tracks stuck out like a sore thumb.

    But that's just me. :)

None for me really. Double Studio albums mostly seem to be bloated with filler just to fill out the 80 minute CD running time. I prefer shorter, more concise records. Of course, there are always exceptions....

But 20 years later they would end up revealing that it was in fact, mostly recorded live after all.

Actually, in an alternate universe, the Hoffman forum has more than a few threads related to "what if" the Beatles single White album was a double and what songs would they have used.

The Cars Door to Door would have made a great double album if they padded it with the outtakes that just recently appeared on the deluxe CDs.
It would have been uneven but IMO much better than what came out.

Out of the bands you mentioned...

Queen. More Queen is always good. Then Sabbath.
