    "Collideascope" (updated):

    The Move - "Blackberry Way"
    The Beatles - "Hey Bulldog"
The Beatles - "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite"*
The Beatles - "I'm Only Sleeping"*
The Beatles - "I Am the Walrus"*

The Small Faces - I've been listening to a lot of Small Faces to find the right song. More to come on this.

Turns out I don't have this song in my collection. I only have a 2 CD collection of Procol Harum and the song "Kaliedescope" is not on it.

I figured this thread might be a good place to go full circle and post my own "Dukes-style" track. After devouring 25 O'Clock and Psonic Psunspot in 1988 I was driven to create a psychedelic track of my own using a lot of vintage instruments and production techniques relying on a number of classic underground garage/psych tracks as my inspiration. See how many songs you can recognize - enjoy!

  3. Kalidescope is on Procol's debut album (or disk).

I haven't been able to listen as much as I like this week - my wife and daughter are going to banish me to the car if I play the Dukes one more time (and they both love the Dukes). So you guys gotta help me here. When all is said and done, we'll shake the tree and see what falls out of the comp.

The Beatles - "Lovely Rita" (listen to the bass on the chorus and compare to BD)
    The Beatles - "Yellow Submarine"
    The Beatles - "Lady Madonna"
The Beatles - "Martha My Dear"

  14. Lady Madonna for that great piano. Edit: Hard Panner beat me to it!

For the spoken word pieces by the little girl before Brainiac's Daughter look no further than Traffic's "Hole in My Shoe"

    Another one for "Collideascope"...
"Sound Asleep" by The Turtles for the sawing/crashing tree sound effect.

  17. Does "Octopus's Garden" count if it uses a similar effect? "Yellow Submarine" is a better choice if you only want to pick one of these two songs.

Oh, that's an awesome pick!!! "Sound Asleep" is on the comp!!!! Many thanks!!!

I guess it could be included, though "Yellow Submarine" is already covering the same ground. I guess that one can be optional, depending on how many CDs this comp will turn into. If there's room, slap it on there.

Just listened to it, Paul -- very polished and pro sounding, not to mention very sixties with perhaps the single-tracked vocal (as opposed to double-tracked) as the only giveaway that it's not from that era. Great!

Good call! I may have to add that as an overdub. Now since this song basically uses a US psych template I figured the Farfisa would be the right keyboard of choice. Now that I have a Mellotron sampler, I may have to try something British next.

Using this thread as an excuse for shameless promotion, here is another psychedelic track of mine that uses a lot of those "25 O'Clock" backwards sweeping pans along with a very cool trick I devised that makes my guitar sound like a harp. Listen for it the middle break which then leads into my "Yours Is No Disgrace" guitar solo! :D

Great idea and an easy fix too! I wouldn't even have to remix it - just add the double vocal over the existing mix. :righton:
