  1. This show is starting to lose me a bit. The ending of last week's episode and then the begining of this week's episode felt really flat and/or too over-the-top.

The bit on the subway was cool until she started with the claws to his chest. Then this week's episode was pretty lame until right about the moment Marcus met up with the tour guides. The old nun was great until she opened her mouth. A horrible actress.

Alright, so Geena Davis is supposed to be grown up Reagan? Okay, fine. But the woman who came to the door at the end and said she was "Kris McNeil" which was the name of the mother (Ellen Burstyn's character) doesn't look any older than Reagan. Whatever, I'm sure that will be explained. Maybe she's a cousin with the same name. I don't really need or want a direct character link to the original movie, so if this is supposed to get me excited, it doesn't.

But to the exorcism - am I to understand the tactic the priest learned from the nuns was to offer absolution to the demons? Meaning what? They become angels again, and instead of being banished to hell when cast out of the host body they go to heaven?

I don't mind the twist as to who Genna Davis actually is...it also changes the story as to who the Demon is actually after.

I liked the ending. But I agree... Reagan's mom looks really young. Weird.

First episode to loose me. The demon dialogue during some of the exorcism was lame imo.

I don't think so. I believe what they were doing was trying to draw the person that was possessed out and to become stronger in their faith, accept Jesus' love, etc and to ultimately be strong enough to cast out the Demon. I am not a religious scholar but I don't believe the Fallen can ever go back to Heaven and become an Angel again...once you're in that club you can't go back.

Well yeah, that's the pope's story. ;) And if I were a fundamentalist believer, I'd say that's the law and any depiction to the contrary is heresy. But I don't believe any of this stuff. I'm just willing to accept the premise of demons and so on for purposes of the show, just as I would with a ghost movie.

But the reason I think I may be on the right track is that when Father Marcus was at the convent observing their ritual/exorcism, weren't the sisters saying "you are forgive" and "go in peace" or something like that? And the one Marcus talked with talked about "taking a more feminine approach", seeming to me to be contrasting the combative exorcisms of male priests with the sisters approach which seemed to be offering some sort of reconciliation. If they aren't offering forgiveness to the evil spirit, then to who? To the possessed? They think the possessed committed some sin to cause itself to become possessed? I guess we'll see. Obviously their brand of exorcism wouldn't be any more officially sanctioned than that of an ex-communicated priest, but I think it would be interesting if that is where the show is going.

These evil spirits seem to have so much power, yet just seem to spend their time taunting priests. I'm not really sure what their point is.

I'm still fine with the show. The British priest is a great actor. Interesting twist with Geena Davis. If Geena Davis is supposed to be in her 50s then the mother would have to be at least 70. That lady looks like a made over 60. Who knows, she was an actress so it's not a big leap that she would sell her soul to the Devil for eternal youth. Actresses, you know. I still think it's a well written show and just scary enough to keep watching without gettin ick'd out. That Brit priest holds it together and it should focus on him more. I wish Father Thomas would have gone up in flames in this episode, however. He doesn't bring anything to the show for me. The subplot of him and the married woman just falls flat. I'm afraid they're going to pull the plug and we'll never get to see where the grand scheme of things is going. In this last episode they're alluding the THE BIG ONE in bible quakes.

Tomas could start getting interesting. They alluded to the fact that he could be lying about why he even became a priest. We will see. But right now at least for me he isn't that interesting of a character.

I don't understand why the demon keeps saying "Bring me the girl.", when that "girl" is right downstairs and even occasionally comes bursting into the daughter's room.

I want to see how the rich contributor (who wrote the $100k check to the younger priest's church) and her bed-ridden husband figure into the story. Will her money get her proximity to the Pope? Will she be escorted to that event by Reagan in newly re-possessed form?

And what was the point of boinking the married temptress, after the British priest kicked the Mexican priest out, for being useless against the demon in that priest's impure lustful form? Was he trying to work it out of his system?

My only complaint is that the demon, in and out of the girl's body, is not so much evil and terrifying, as just dirty and somewhat loathsome. And why do the children die when their heads spin around? That was a frequently used parlor trick in the original movie, no harm done in the end.

  14. shes was Cagney. Or Lacey. Geena is 60. Sharon Gless is 73. So a mother at 13.

Yeah, but we're talking about Hollywood actresses here, so Geena is 40-something and Gless' age we won't discuss.

I liked it ok until this episode. Once the exorcism itself actually started, it was so poorly done, I turned it off halfway through. I don't think this can be done on network TV. I'll wait for next season of Outcast to get my exorcist fix, I'm out.

I'll finish the season but this whole "I've come back for your mother" thing is very Shark-worthy.

  18. I didn't mind that Geena has been revealed to be Regan. That was actually pretty cool, but it seems there's always a corny part that somebody doesn't like.

To me, the whole sides of the ambulance caving in and tearing up the paramedics was too much. Yuck.

But I'll continue to watch. The stuff that's supposed to be creepy is actually creepy.

I can't believe Tomas went through with it, though.

Well, last nights episode was more interesting development. Casey took a back seat in storyline development as we were introduced to the cult "Friars of Ascension"... and learned that they want Father Tomas. We got more plot development with Reagan and her mother.. and that was pretty much it.

I've been liking this show but last night's was the first episode that I thought was subpar compared to the rest. The cult "Friars of Ascension" looks like it could be the culprit that turns this into silliness if they keep it up with this storyline. Hopefully it is short-lived.

  21. God's pretty unforgiving about the fallen it seems.

  22. I think it's kind of a clever twist. It might be shark worthy if we knew this up front as a hook to,pull us imto the series but the fact that this appears to be a fresh start series not directly related to the movie is a clever slight of hand in my opinion.

It's what they do with this I formation now that will determine it for me.
