    I don't remember.

The first CD I had (and still have) was a present (Suicidal Tendencies - Controlled By Hatred) but the three first I bought myself I can't remember.

This is easy. In 1988 when I turned 16 I got a crap car and a CD player that was worth more than my car. I also got a gift card for 3 CD's. At the time I didn't think I'd ever be able to afford another CD so they had to be diverse so I selected:

    NWA-Straight Outta Compton
    Guns N Roses-Appetite for Destruction
    Hank Williams Jr-Greatest Hits II

Late summer/early fall 1989...about to start senior year of High School. I was the first kid on the block to get a CD player. Since I knew that they could be expensive, my first year or so I didn't make any blind buys...only "greatest hits" compilations or albums I already had on tape that I really really really liked. So my first 3 CDs were...

Deepest Purple: The Very Best of Deep Purple
    Bad Company: 10 From 6
    Black Sabbath: s/t first album

Of these 3, the only one I still have is the Sabbath.

I held out on CDs until I got a CD player in the Fall of 1988. I continued to buy hip hop on cassette and mostly indie rock on used or promo vinyl which was really cheap at the time and not in great demand. I think my first three CDs were:

    Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
    Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Sessions
    New Order - Technique

Two of those (Daydream and Technique) I later bought again on vinyl.

Summer of '87, I got The Smiths' Louder Than Bombs, though I wouldn't have a CD player until a year later. The next two were probably Rush's Moving Pictures and Pink Floyd's Meddle.

Don't remember the third, but I was given a copy of The Velvet Underground around this time as well, and those were my first three CDs.

My first three CDs were actually CD singles, Tin Machine You Belong In Rock and Roll and Baby Universal, plus Tina Turner's I Want You With Me (as it had her two duets with David Bowie on them). They were all before I got a CD player, the first one was 11 months before. By the time I got a CD player I had accumilated 14 cds, mainly Bowie.

The Blondie is the only one I no longer have and I'm looking to grab a replacement copy the next time I see it cheap.

Not one of my first three CD's, but I remember buying the first Suzanne Vega on a whim because I liked the cover and I vaguely remembered seeing something about her in a magazine. There was not a lot to choose from back then so I was somewhat willing to take a chance on artists I didn't know. Also bought Jane Siberry and Propaganda under similar circumstances. Ended up loving them all.

I held out as long as I could (struggling w/ the false idea that vinyl was dying), a couple years or more
longer than any of my music-buying friends. But finally I gave in and purchased a Denon single-
disc player and the following three cds:

Sketches of Spain - Miles Davis
    Saxophone Colossus - Sonny Rollins
    Astral Weeks - Van Morrison

I was pretty disappointed with cd sound quality of those early years and I never did give up my vinyl collection.

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells 1983
    Pink Floyd - DSOTM 1983
Camel - The Snow Goose 1984 (February)

All three of these were from different shops (the Camel CD was from Morocco believe it or not...). All three had to be taken out of a locked glass display cabinet. Different times...

I bought my first CD player in April 1984. It was a Technics machine and, after the initial amazement of it all, I quickly tired of its harsh, digital sound. I traded it in for an ex-demo Meridian MCD about four months later. I was a student and I have no idea how I afforded it...

Don't remember numbers 2 or 3, but I do remember one. Long box packaged Journey Raised on Radio. I bought it probably a month or so before I bought a player. I remember thinking: This record sounds SOOO amazing on vinyl, I can only imagine how incredible this CD is going to sound!!
