That's right, they rented a mansion in town in the 70s and Billion Dollar Babies was recorded there.

Thanks for reminding me, Googling 'Alice Cooper Greenwich' came up with a story about a family I used to work for who had a connection to the band.

But Aztec Two Step the wiki says they were formed in Boston. Were they CT based?

Modest Mouse is from Issaquah (WA), my kids knew them here, from our neighborhood. Sleater Kinney is from Olympia (WA-named after a road and freeway exit off I-5)

They recorded in Bridgeport, and we used to see them at UConn every so often. I just assumed...

NRBQ? They were great - a mainstay in ~71-2, played at Shaboo a lot...

    ...Okay I'll quit posting...

Edit - I see you meant Aztec Two Step in response to the post you quoted. :) Here is more info on Alice Cooper:

This article from the man himself claims they recorded part of it in the estate's ballroom:
When Alice Cooper Lived in a Mansion in Greenwich, Conn. | Nights with Alice Cooper
The house was off Doubling Road, near the Greenwich Country Club; A house on the road was a frequent host of house parties when I was young, but the Galesi estate burned down in 1976.

I'll have to ask my dad if he remembers anything about it, the family homes of a couple of his high school friends are up in that area.

Thank you for these corrections. When I looked up bands from Oregon they came up.

It's this forum's fault that those obscure bands you cited aren't famous?

No it’s sad that such mediocrity comes from this place. It has nothing to do with this forum, but keep trying.

It’s an honest question. You could answe it or just cry about it.

Sorry - I misread your post. I thought "this place" meant the SHF, not Arizona! :hide:

Not necessarily in order of my favorites, but if you’re talking most famous:

    New York:

    Billy Joel
    Simon and Garfunkel
    Lou Reed
    Dion
    The Ramones

Not sure how Joel wasn’t included earlier- only one of the biggest selling artists of all time, and a quintessential New Yorker.

Just realized, here’s one of those rare threads where The Beatles are excluded.

As are The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd; even Neil Young and Joni Mitchell...

When I first saw this thread, I thought about the most famous bands (to U.S. audiences), and figuring out where they started. It's amazing how many at the top "invaded" the U.S. In addition to those above, there's:

    Led Zep
    AC/DC
    The Kinks
    Iron Maiden
    Van Morrison
    Pink Floyd
    Queen

    And the list goes on...

If not already mentioned in the prior six pages I’d think Bob Jovi is up there with Bruce in terms of popularity.

If popularity is part of the OP’s criteria, New Kids on the Block (gagging) would be on the list.
