I almost grabbed the "American Beauty" MFSL 45 release the other day when I saw it in a store for a 'reasonable' (relatively-speaking) price. But I'm also perfectly happy with the Rhino release. I think that sounds surprisingly good. Trying to control the urge... I've generally dodged 45's to avoid one more rabbit hole... but the thought is lingering...
That Wharf rat from Godchaux's first show in October '71 was rockin' really good. From a very nice sounding tape via Charlie Miller.
Fast forward a month to December 15 and a fine fine It hurts me too. Tape via Charlie Miller of course, and it sounds bloody fantastic. A Betty recording I believe
Yes it is. I had the good fortune to give it a test listen before it was circulated (which was delayed by LL going down). It's such a good recording that it is possible to easily analyze how the mix transforms throughout the first set.
nope, not me. I don't have any Pearl Jam in my collection but I really liked Eddie Vedder's speech to induct REM into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
I didn't even think about the time frame but I sampled all five shows today. Never heard the Beach Boys mini set before... I know there are different mixes available forthe shows. Any thoughts or info on that?
Thanks for the correction, Princeton 4.17.71 comes from a master reel, and was handled by the Betamania crew. Sorry for sharing my mind's confusion.
I haven't played this in over a year. Time to fix that. Shrine Exposition Hall, Los Angeles, CA, 11/10/1967
For '76 releases I like Dick's Picks 33, Dave's Picks 18 and Cow Palace more but these 9/25 and 9/28/76 shows are an enjoyable listen with some nice moments. Playing disc 4 from 9/28/76 tonight: Playing in the Band -> The Wheel -> Samson and Delilah -> Jam -> Comes a Time -> Drums -> Eyes of the World -> Orange Tango Jam -> Dancing in the Streets -> Playing in the Band E: Johnny B. Goode
My only thought/info is that the original "Buddy Miller" boards that have been circulating since shortly after the shows were played are must-hears for any fan of this era.
Interesting that Buddy Miller, wearing his musician "hat", has been part of some of the Celebration for Jerry Garcia concerts. The great circle of life...
Public service announcement for Almost Deadheads... "Hey Guys, We are all watching the weather for this weekend. We want to let everyone know that we are looking at indoor options for the Red Rocks show as playing outdoors may be unsafe and miserable. We know a lot of people are traveling out to Colorado and want to confirm that we are definitely playing 2 shows this weekend. If the forecast maintains the trend its on, we will move the Red Rocks show indoors. All the Red Rocks tickets will work for that show. So stay tuned, we want to do and will do what’s right for everyone’s safety."
"In Wichita, one of the best shows of this period occurred. Garcia is playing with gusto and originality thru-out the show." - Dick Now playing CD 2: Around And Around Casey Jones Cumberland Blues El Paso He's Gone Truckin' > The Other One > Brokedown Palace Sugar Magnolia
That's good to know, I'll keep tabs to see where they wind up. Right now the forecast high for Saturday is 40 or so in Boulder, RR is 2000 feet higher up in the hills, no good for a concert. The 1st Bank Center would be a very appealing option.
Just before it was too late for the 40th anniversary, at least by Pacific time, I cued up 4/25/77 from the 30 Trips box, another fantastic show from Spring '77, and one that I hadn't heard until the official release. Definitely among the better shows in the box...
So I painted a house yesterday, ceilings and all. I usually go to bed around 12-1 am. Last night I passed out around 7:30 and woke up at 5:30 am. I've been up ever since, haha. In Starbucks for the morning with night 4 of the 1991 Garden run going. What a one-two punch opening duo of Bucket>Bertha!
