The Schwartz is with me. I've been listening to DP 18, but rather than the 2/5 Cedar Rapids portion that I knew before this release (and for that reason I grab for Disc 3 more often than the rest), I'm listening to and really enjoying the Estimated->Eyes->Playing sequence from Disc 2. I just found out that Grant Hart passed away, though, so as soon as Drums starts I am going to have to change gears and wrap up the night with some Husker Du. Damn does that news suck.
@ianuaditis that would have totally cheered me up if I had not gotten the Grant Hart news simultaneously.
Yeah it was just the only thing I found about Keelin in an admittedly cursory Google search. No diss intended to the widder woman. EDIT: plus you only responded because you wanted to say "the widder Koons."
Still listening to 3/24/90. I was so young then. Now, I am not so young. I wish I could take a time machine back because I can't remember how much a Knick hot dog was. I was a big two hot dogs at the set break person.
That's my favorite show in the box set. In fact, last year I posted this: The most interesting segment of the show triggers with "Estimated Prophet", which is absolutely top-notch. The band is once again precise and inventive, and the outro jam is a true pleasure to be heard.
Gotta love Jerry's midi-horn during Terrapin. Gotta! Also, by this point, Brent was the master of all songs. Awesome Mind Left Body jam (Mud Love Buddy).
So I'm back on the Dead wagon it looks like, but I am taking a break today to digest some more live Metallica and some more King Crimson. Sorry to disappoint, but how can I follow up a show like yesterday's so soon?
I've only listened up through Eyes from 7/3. As good as some of this show is so far and as wild as some of 7/3 is (great ending to the first set, fine Scarlet>Fire and then a great out solo on Stella Blue and a fiery Sugar Magnolia (1978 Sugar Magnolia's rule)), the 1 set 7/1 show is going to be hard to top. In any event I'm all into 1978 rough & ready GOGD.
Sometimes, when I don't remember much about a show (like in this case, in which I didn't remember much more tan the fact it was a single set show) I look for my past posts in here to check what my opinion was back when I had first listened to it. Regarding 1/7/78, I wrote: Energetic, aggressive and concise Dead. Some few subtleties during "Playing" and the "Estimated" outro are welcomed among the hard-hitting overall style. Is this punk-Dead? Nice short (by the band's standards) show.
I am also listening to Spring 1990 today - specifically 3-22-90, Copps Coliseum, Hamilton, ON - one of my favorites from the tour (and first box). This tour reminds me of Spring 1977. I met an old mistake Walking down the street today I didn't want to be mean about it But I didn't have one good word to say
Killer show ! Don`t think I bought a hot dog at this show so I can`t tell you the cost Wish they would just make this a stand alone release !
