Stuart played with JRAD the first time I saw them live, I was impressed with what he added that night. (29 April 2017- 1st Bank; one of the free shows on bugs.net)
I’m tempted to go get the Winterland 77 and/or the May 77 for $300 each but since I’m signing a contract for a new car lease tomorrow I doubt I’d have a place to stay tomorrow night if I took that ride down the Garden State Parkway to Route 1...
True. From their email (bolding mine): ********************************* Just Put Out: A Huge Grateful Dead CD collection w/Many Rares! We have been working for the last few months on one of the largest CD collections we have ever purchased, (the Colorado collection, see below), and have unearthed a treasure trove of Grateful Dead rarities! This collection, or the Grateful Dead portion of, consists of roughly 100 single discs and smaller sets, and 50 or so larger box sets. You can see a short video featuring some of the titles here: (video link) Almost all of these CDs and sets are out-of-print. Most are limited editions and numbered, and many are made even rarer by the inclusion of bonus discs that were only available through online subscription to the Dead’s website. Among the most interesting titles are: “30 Trips Around the Sun” which includes one complete show from each of the 30 years from 1966 to 1995. 80 CDs in total housed in a beautiful wooden box with a hardcover book, scroll, and 7” single. $899.99 (We found this early in the collection, so it’s been out in the store, but we’ve lowered the price by $100) “Fillmore West, 1969, The Complete Recordings”, GDR DECD-291, a 10-disc box set with the very rare bonus disc. $499.99 “Formerly the Warlocks”, GDR R2-525760, a 6-CD wooden box set from Hampton, Virginia, 1989, with seal intact. $299.99 “May 1977”, GDR R2-557479, a 14-disc box set, recorded in St. Paul, Chicago, St. Louis, and Tuscaloosa. $299.99 “Winterland, June 1977, The Complete Recordings”, GDR GRA2-601, a 9-CD set recorded in S.F. $299.99 This collection also features around 20 titles each from the sought-after “Dick’s Picks”, “Dave’s Picks” and “Road Trips” series many with the elusive bonus discs. Also included are around 30 Jerry Garcia titles including four from the “Pure Jerry” series and around 40 other Grateful Dead titles, mostly assorted live recordings. A word of warning, many of these titles are very expensive. We have tried to stay on the low end of the collectable market prices, but some of them are pretty wallet-busting. The conditions are, almost without exception, excellent. Please note that these CDs are sold first come, first served. Many of these titles are in very high demand, so to be as fair as we can to everyone, please do not call us to ask to put any on hold. For those not familiar with our store, sorry, we are a walk-in store only and do not ship. We hope you get a chance to visit us soon as we don’t expect this collection to last very long. *********************************
Criminal! It sounds like garbage. The DAT boards circulate in the trade community, and they sound much better.
But at least she’s going to the concert She thinks I have WAY too many CDs and the current 2015 Mustang is more than good enough for her to sit in the passenger seat next to me
Great show, one that was in my tape collection and got lots of play back in the day, but it's been a long while.
Listened to 8/17/91, a show I attended but had never listened to on tape before (although the superior 8/16/91 show has gotten a lot of play). Pretty weak show overall, but with a strong Morning Dew. Help->Slip->Franklin's sounds a bit sloppy and lethargic, Hornsby gets way too many accordion solos (Q: What's perfect pitch? A: When you throw an accordion into a dumpster and it lands on a ukulele), Brown-Eyed Women has a trainwreck moment, Music Never Stopped is lethargic, and after not listening to any '91 shows in a while I found the overall sound too cluttered and didn't really like Garcia's guitar tone on much of the show. Didn't expect to be so negative about it when I started out listening, but I am now treating myself to a first listen to 4/13/83 and my mood is brightening considerably.
Alpine Valley 1989. Ultramatrix SDB. Second set begins with the new year classic Sugar Magnolia>Scarlet Begonias. Cool transition, SM ends rather quickly
I haven't listened to 1/15/78 in earnest in long while --- thanks to all writing about it - 2nd set is so on!
I can guess... Dont care. First band i have memories of hearing besides The Beatles. Never understood the hate.
I do however think Grohl is rhe real deal. He cares passionstely about what he does and it shows. The only problem is the derivative nature of his music he seems bot to care if he writes something close to something else that seems familiar to me. Like the song One By One. Ever listen to Helmet? Cmon man at least change the chord sequence up a bit. I've seen a recentish live dvd and they do a great show.
