That's it, man. Trying to pay the bills has been a nightmare but we're scraping by, lol. We're trying to get out to the west and run California. That's where it's at, haha.
Here is an article I have never seen. Worth a read if you haven't. Interview with Jerry Garcia & Bob Weir April 16, 1991
I found it particularly gossipy in a not-so-useful way, and in the end, repetitive. Yep, we know, Bobby drinks, Billy is erratic, Mickey is a pseudo-intellectual who can't hear, and Phil/Jill are generally terrible. And no one likes the drummers. To wit, every couple chapters, Bobby would disappear himself again for a while (ostensibly for rehab), Billy would re-retreat to Hawaii, Mickey would have a new and mildly interesting project that no one remembers, and Phil would be ticked at everyone else for a new and more pithy reason. It was worth it to read the behind-the-scenes on Fare Thee Well, in that it was a lot less happy and celebratory than it appeared. Other than that, if you're familiar with the basic storyline and are a longtime fan who was paying attention, there's not much that's going to blow your mind. Most interesting part is getting a full blow-by-blow of the Terrapin Station museum project, plus the insight on how Phil pretty much caused the Dead camp to abandon a project to basically win the music internet. Good old Grateful Dead, blowing the big ones.
People of Earth- Greetings from the great beyond. I am contacting you at this time to assure you that all is well and to let you know that Dick's Picks shall continue in my absence just as before. My plan for future releases are well known to my teammates and they have sworn with their blood to remain true to the cause. I hope this release will alleviate any doubts concerning my posthumous powers. ~ The Archivist formerly known as Dick
Since I saw one of the shows, I'm a bit curious about this. Not sure how much I want to know about how awful Phil and his wife can be.
Great write up! Yea, im completely In The Dark on it all so its new stuff to me but i get what youre saying that others wont get much from it.
it's only $20 on Amazon. Or you can stream it if you have apple music or probably other streaming services.
Which release did you spin backwards to hear that? My love for the music knows few boundaries but From reading posts by other forumers and my own sentiments we seem to have strayed from the golden road a little. Mr latvala in his corporeal form would possibly have acknowledged that.
Oddly enough I happened to notice that myself last night and ordered it. $17 for a freaking 5 disc set that is purportedly awesome? No Brainer.
I might be more of an '86 vintage C.C. Rider fan than an actual GD fan. OK, maybe not. Bobby fans are people too.
I think Dead Net still has it for that price plus most of all have received the bonus disc when ordering. Don’t miss the bonus disc!!
I've owned it since it was released, but at that price I bought one for a friend - because why not. Of course, I also grabbed the new reissue of Allman Bros Bear's tapes 2/70 and the two latest Garcia Live releases because who likes having money in the bank anyway?
