Until this I’d only ever seen this cover in a small thumbnail view and considering the red/orange color scheme I’d always thought it was a fireman skeleton holding a firehose with his fire engine in the background. I see now this is not the case. This seems to be one of the coolest DaP covers and, even though I haven’t found myself in much of a mood for 77 and 78 this summer, I’m half intrigued to wrangle this one just because of the cover itself. One of my other favorite covers is Dave’s 10.
It is a good show, tho' I don't go to '78 a lot, most of what I have is good enough for me. DaP 15 is a definite keeper; agree with you about the cover art, the fiery 'riverboat gambler' is pretty awesome. Nashville has quite a history for a little bit of everything, going way back.
Re: Watkins Glen poster Hmm, I have a sneaking suspicion that the poster is a fake one created decades after the fact. There seem to be a lot of these fake historical rock posters out there.
Notable PHIL BOMBS!! Lets go!! During Slipknot on Dick’s Picks 17. I’m not sure what to call Phil ripping reality open on Dick’s Picks 23 during The Other One.
Notable Phil bomb was 29 years ago this evening at the Greek when the proper old school bass riff made a loud and thundering return ahead of "Other One." Pretty great audience response on the AUD recording IIRC
I'm so glad the soft spot I have for the Movie Soundtrack -- listening to that once a year for about five years was what finally made me start to "get" live GD -- is also justified by its being so so so so so good. That love bleeds over to Steal Your Face. I'm thinking those five shows would make a fine mid-October project, if I'm not still basking in the glow of the PNW box.
I have a computer hooked up to my main system, which I mostly used to play ripped CDs back through a DAC that is better than the one in my CD player, but occasionally will stream shows from archive.org there. Most of my archive.org listening I do on the computer at work or my phone during my commute, though.
This morning I finished up 5-21-74, a bit of anticlimax after that ridiculous Playin in the Band. Then it was 4-7-94, which I expected to be a train wreck based on the Deadbase review, but was actually quite good. A couple of flubs, but for instance Music Never Stopped and Terrapin were not nearly as bad as the reviewer made it seem, and the jam out of Terrapin was very cool. Eyes in the late era is weird, it's really slow, but it just keeps chugging along. I've come to really like Liberty, especially alongside some of the other encore choices in 94. Finally, keeping with the theme, it's 4-20-84 in Philadelphia. So far this one is not grabbing me, but its got a nice and mellow Scarlet>Fire to start off set 2.
Either I listen thru computer or put the files on the Fiio or Golden Ear on the iphone. If there is a show or sequence I really like I will put it in itunes.
Wow, they are getting really good at reproducing the vintage stuff. Impressive, but will continue to be content with my OG old-school wax.
Wharf Rat from 83-85? when the lightning strike powers down the sound system for a quick second. Phil bombs away! It must been amazing to have heard that live
