Comparing Willow (a sometimes bizarre children's film) and Duel (a very good but low budget suspense film) to The Human Centipede is an apples and oranges thing. Willow was a film Lucas produced only, Ron Howard directed that movie. Lucas's first two movies, THX 1138 and American Graffiti are both brilliant in their own ways. Your analogy doesn't make any sense.

I watched the trailer and found it laughable and childishly grotesque at the same time. It appears more slickly produced than the original I Spit On Your Grave, for instance, but I assert that they occupy the same space as entertainment, which is to say more of an endurance test than anything else. The impression the trailer leaves me with is that this looks like the cinematic equivalent of someone who tells sexist, violent, scatalogical jokes in an attempt to shock anyone and everyone in the room so that afterward people are mainly left with the feeling of "Wow I can't believe he said that."

I wouldn't say this movie is the product of a sick mind, but of a rather infantile one.

I wonder what was going though the actor's heads when going out for the role of the "centipede" this movie. Can you imagine being desperate enough for a part to read this script and say, "Oh, yeah. I must get a role in this film! It'll lead to bigger things!"

My reference to the "Willow" & "Duel" movies was that they had an association with them & by comparing them to their blockbusters, these movies were at the lower end of the success meter. I do not hate these movies at all.

Even though I know how it ends, it's one of my favourite movies to re-watch, Weaver makes it great.:thumbsup:

Saw the trailer on a movie I rented a while back, that was enough for me, just too many good movies out there to waste my time on this.

  12. "Duel" a bad film? Sorry but you're wrong about that.

Well you called it a BAD film. "Duel" was one of the highest rated TV movies of its time AND it so impressed Universal that they had Spielberg go back and shoot additional footage to make it closer to feature film length to release in Europe. The version on home video by the way IS the version releasaed in Europe and is a bit different than the one that aired on TV (which ran about 67-70 minutes).

"The Human Centipede"-- I must be getting old because I don't understand the audience for this film.

I rented The Human Centipede last night because modern horror flicks are always controversial on this site for one reason or another.

Meh...it wasn't that good. I keep seeing terms like "scat" and "torture porn" used throughout this thread. I didn't think The Human Centipede was either of these things. I found the concept of the film far more disturbing than the actual execution of it. I thought Hostel, The Saw films and even the recent remake of The Last House On the Left were more disturbing than The Human Centipede. I was actually pretty bored by this film. The actor who played the mad scientist was pretty good but this wasn't a film that after viewing is going to ruin my soul like some here are claiming. I found the film kind of average and forgettable as a horror film at best.

Most so-called "disturbing" movies (especially horror films) are never as disturbing as people make them out to be. :sigh:

When I first read this post, I saw it as:

Most so-called "disturbing" movies (especially horror films) are never as disturbing as the people who make out to them.

    Now that would be disturbing...!

I saw one of the August Underground films a few years back (I think it was Mordum).... as a seasoned horror-film veteran, I've seen just about everything under the sun and there's not much that can disturb me.... but the "scissor" scene literally made me start sweating in discomfort. (If you've seen the film, you'll know the scene I'm talking about... and I think you have to be a male to fully appreciate the horror of it).

(Ditto for the infamous "bathtub" scene from the original I Spit On Your Grave....)

Rape scenes always make me uncomfortable. "Base Moi " is an example.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry was making out during Schindler's List.

Having watched the trailer, I've just one question -
is there any nudity in the film?! He attaches these
poor souls together and leave their briefs on?! Can't
have Junior seeing any skin, but oceans of violence
    and bloodletting is okay!!
