'Ey mates. I've had the need for a Jam compilation in the back of my mind for a long time now, since I first heard them really (which, being a relative youngster, was not 30 years ago). Anyways, I scoped out the track lists of the various compilations, and Greatest Hits had all of the singles, as far as I know, so I picked it up. I'm not thrilled with the sound quality, though. For example, there is a ton of sibilance, vocal and otherwise, on The Bitterest Pill. I've heard that tune a number of times, and those versions definitely lacked this sibilance. Seriously, if you told me the tapes used for the Greatest Hits version of Bitterest Pill were a tenth generation cassette, it would not shock me. Beat Surrender also has this sibilance problem, though not quite as bad. Other tracks sound like they may have some noise reduction... in general I'm just not thrilled with the sound. Any opinions on this disc? It seems this is another instance of an artist not being definitively cataloged on CD. Guess I'll have to check out some version of Snap! or something... pain in the butt.
