2 SHM CDs: Hank Mobley's Far Away Lands & Stanley Turrentine's Easy Walker The Mobley is from '67 and includes Donald Byrd, Cedar Walton, Ron Carter & Billy Higgins. The front line of Mobley & Byrd are extremely soulful, but it's Walton that really impresses throughout the whole album. Just phenomenal playing. The Turrentine is from several sessions recorded in '66, '67 & '69. The trio of Turrentine, Tyner & Cranshaw are constant, but the drumming involves Roker, Ray Lucas & Billy Cobham. I love Stanley T in quartet form, and this one doesn't disappoint.
Yet another purchase for me that was made on the basis of all the positive comments on the forums Jazz threads. Funky In France - Grant Green (Resonance) 2CD So refreshing listening again to CD 1 from this very welcome release. Now I'm wondering even more so about the single disc Grant Green Slick! live at oil can harry's (now that's a notable title!)

Absolutely. Hans, what can you say about the "Detroit - New York Junction" album by Thad Jones? Is it any good?
Cedar Walton is on a lot great albums by others. Among my favorites is the Joe Henderson album and Walton's song of the same name Mode For Joe
Regarding Turrentine's Easy Walker, I noticed some extra instrumentation not noted in my prior post on a particular song. I missed James Spaulding on alto sax, Richard Landrum on congas, Garnett Brown on trombone & Blue Mitchell on trumpet. This was on the Duke Pearson arranged You Want Me to Stop Loving You, which is a beautiful song.
It is, Thad Jones' Blue Notes are all excellent. If you have the chance to get the Mosaic set at a reasonable price, grab it, it's great; it has Thad's 1956-1957 and 1959-1960 Blue Note, United Artists and Roulette recordings. Album index: Detroit-New York Junction (Blue Note; with Billy Mitchell and Kenny Burrell) The Magnificent Thad Jones (Blue Note) The Magnificent Thad Jones Vol.3 (Blue Note) The Other Side of the 1500 Series (Various Artists, Blue Note) Motor City Scene (United Artists) Minor Strain (the Thad Jones part; Roulette, the album was shared with Lee Morgan) The Birdland Story (Various Artists, Roulette) I just noticed that I have 2 copies of the Thad Jones Mosaic booklet; maybe I should sell one
Thank you Hans, this was most helpul. I've had an eye on the Mosaic for a while but never had the courage to go for it. Now I'm sold....
