Wow, how many albums did that V.S.O.P quintet do? I only know the live V.S.O.P.: The Quintet album, but I like it a lot (what's not to like there, though?) But speaking of Hancock, Carter and Williams, tonight's commuting music:

[/QUOTE] I own it in the edition of the serie Jazz in Paris. Awesome album: Stitt is one of my preferred bop altoists. Peterson is impeccable as usual. I'm not sure, but I think that there are only the first eight tracks recorded in Paris.
Yes, first eight tracks only recorded in Paris. Talking of Paris, it's about time I revived memories of all the music on the 3 discs included in this neat mini box set. It is great value for money release - if you can find a copy! Bebop | Jazz In Paris - Various Artists (EmArcy/Universal) 3CD Box 3CDs in a sturdy box, all with individual cardboard sleeves. Your box set is really awesome. I own Saxophones at Saint-Germain Des-Pres. I am interested to the other cd's, in particular to the compilation Bebop featuring Howard McGhee, great bopper trumpeter.
I think they did 4 albums; at least 2 which are available on SACD from Japan. I had totally forgotten about this Milestone release. I think I have it somewhere around here. I’ll check it out tonight.
I love Joe Farrell on Elvin Jones' Puttin' It Together where he showcases his many talents and his versatility as a musician. Stunning!
Whew... my first posting in the Jazz thread. Listened to this nice compilation the other day, I especially loved the performances by Chico Hamilton (One for John) and Duke Ellington (Turkish Coffee). Released in 1963 on CBS, this is a very enjoyable listen - though I imagine this comp would make even more fun if one was more knowledgeable in the world of Jazz than me.
Various Artists - J Jazz: Deep Modern Jazz From Japan 1969-1984 (BBE/2018) Great stuff here. Compiled by Tony Higgins and Mike Peden, this comp was years and years in the making. I first read about it as a "forthcoming release" in the 2010-12 range under a slightly different title. The vinyl has three tracks not found on the CD and it is a beautiful 3xLP pressing. None of the twelve cuts have ever been issued outside of Japan. The first pressing sold out in a flash, but the second pressing is still widely available. Well worth the wait.
Django Reinhardt - The Complete Django Reinhardt And Quintet Of The Hot Club Of France Swing/HMV Sessions 1936-1948 Mosaic Records MD6-190
The box set discs have unique front and back sleeves. All images I posted were the front sleeves as used on the individual CD releases. The editions in the box set had the exact same image on the front sleeve, but minus all the printed [square boxed] titles.
