Sitting here listening to the "Cuttin' Up" LP & Wow great tunes. Anybody else remember Johnny Otis?
I saw him at the Ash Grove in the late 60's and at SDSU in 1971 or so, with Shuggie, Eddie Cleanhead Vincent and the rest of the troupe. They were great.
I remember him well. I may have been at the Ash Grove at the same time as Doug.
Check out "Cold Shot", it had Shuggie, Delmar Evans, and Sugarcane Harris on it. I wore out two records of this, it's that good.
On a side note, I talked to Sugarcane in the bathroom; he was in there wrapping paper towels around his badly burned calf. I asked him if he needed to see a doctor, he just laughed and said no.
Live At Monterey is another good one.
Johnny Otis is mentioned in the Animals' great song, "Story of Bo Diddley".
Great artist. "Cold Shot" is a stone-cold classic, IMHO. Also, check out "Live at Monterey."
