Surprised there wasn't a thread on this.
I think this is a good movie. Some funny moments but quite serious.
Honestly, I don't see Pete Davidson becoming a big star. I can see him go the way of Joe Piscopo or Chris Katan

Maybe not many people have seen it since it was a $20 video on demand movie up until a few weeks ago. I only just saw it last week. I loved it but wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t appeal to lots of people.

I'm a big fan of Judd Apatow, but I don't really see the appeal of Pete Davidson. Perhaps it's because I've only seen him in the news a bunch (rather than knowing him for any work he has done) and I didn't want to know anything about him just like every other celebrity that is also in the news that I also don't want to know anything about. For me this is one to wait until its on streaming, if I watch it at all.

I cannot stand Pete Davidson hence my avoidance of this.

It’s a very good role for him. I think you’d dig this movie.

This is what I wrote several months ago in Last Movie You Watched:

I just watched this last night. There were some guffaws and there were some cringes. It had enough appeal to be a decent night's entertainment. No great shakes but again it had the quirkiness of Staten Island residents...some stuff did fall flat though. A small thumbs up.
This would be The King of Staten Island

The trailer looked pretty good, a little disappointed to hear that it's just an OK movie.

I really enjoyed the film and was surprized by Davidsons performance, especially in the second half. I like most Apatow films and thought this was one of his best.

    I liked it well enough:

The King of Staten Island [Blu-Ray] (2020)

It's a typical Apatow movie. Same kind of story, same kind of tone, same kind of characters, still too long.

It might hew toward Davidson's real life story, but it still has Apatow all over it.

So if you like Apatow, you'll like it. If you don't, skip it! :)

It has two big things going for it, Marissa Tomei and Bill Burr, they both knock it out of the park. It’s a nice story, worth a rental for sure.

I haven’t watched it for the same reason, although I’m not a huge Apatow fan.

If you're not an Apatow fan, then don't bother. As I think I mentioned earlier, this is totally typical Apatow!

The lead actors may change in his movies, but the style remains the same!

Wow. A thread on how no one has seen this movie. Watch it and then report if you liked it or not.

I'd maybe watch it for free, or try to.

But yeah - $20 for Pete Davidson?

It's weird - Apatow makes these two and a half hour comedies, and not a minute is wasted.

He would be the reason to see this, but Davidson the reason not to.

I am not a big Pete Davidson fan by any means, but I enjoyed this movie.

And....Marissa Tomei can still pull off "Hot Mom."

Oh, I disagree. There's always lots of filler in Apatow movies that could get cut!

Before watching and being surprised by this film I doubt I’d have paid any more that $1 to watch it. I never thought the previews made it look that appealing. I only saw it because it was free from the library. And I had no clue who Pete Davidson or Jude Apatow was beforehand lol.
