Although it's only a reproduction of an autographed photo.

Obviously. Still nice to have, especially if advertised as part of the package.

Finally got my mitts on the SDE as my wife commandeered it when it was delivered as a Birthday present. Oh my! This really is quite a lovely set. The book looks like I'm going to need an hour or so set aside with some peace & quiet and some good coffee. The vinyl, posters and photos are high quality reproductions (can't play the vinyl but both the gatefold and the Swedish sleeve are lovely physical pieces to hold and have). Just ripping the CDs to lossless for the NAS for streaming around the house.

It couldn't happen to a nicer album!

I'm just starting a thorough listen to the new set and I'm blown away - yet again - by just how much top flight material was recorded for the album: two very full albums' worth of first rate material. I also realised that I've never found the sequencing of the original album especially compelling. It jumps around various pockets of greatness without much of a sense of build or development for me. It might be a fool's errand, but has anybody come up with a great double album sequence utilising all, or most of, the tracks from these sessions? I'm also inclined to include Dave's 'Lincoln County' and 'There Is No Life Without Love', which belong to the same period and seem to me to fit the Village Green vibe very well.

  10. I finally got mine today as a birthday gift. Hooray! Damn, what a set! This is probably right up there with my Beach Boys' SMiLe box as a very classy set. Thye really outdid themselves. As far as packaging I like it better than TWA SDE and the Electric Ladyland 50th (duh!). So, The Kinks wins out of this year's anniversary sets.

Now, on to the music...which won't be tonight. It's too late in the evening, but I feel that I'll have a blast with this one. :)

Sounds promising - I may pick up a copy myself if that is the case...anyone else bought and listened to the standalone stereo vinyl?

I’m still in love with this set. Maybe I over saturated myself, but I’ve already come back to it after the White Album release. I think this may finally show me that I do indeed rate TVGPS higher than TWA. The horror! The material here is just too good and unique. And as of this remaster, sounds so good!

He has looked bad in all the appearances for this release that I've seen. He is getting old, aren't we all, but that doesn't seem to be the cause of the way he looks. He looks a little unsteady on his feet, and just seems much more fragile that his years should make him look. His speech even sounds a little off. Hope he is ok.

Hey, the way you edited my quote made it look like I was scolding Ray for daring to get old!

The channel 4 interview with Ray earlier this year was pretty good I thought... he started off pretty frail but he warmed up soon given a more in depth platform... I don’t think Ray was ever comfortable doing the quick soundbite, and age only makes this more obvious.

Didn't mean it that way at all. I couldn't get the emoji to disappear.

Sorry, I’m not really being totally serious, however for the record I’d like it to be known that my waggy finger emoji was meant to comment (largely self mockingly given how anal the complaint is) on ITV captioning a clip wrongly rather to chastise Ray for the crime of getting older.

Thanks. I'll definitely give that line-up a crack (though it does seem a little skimpy to me: side three is only 13 minutes long!)

  23. There's this guy who has a blog online where he reconstructs albums. I can't find his blog right now. That was the link I was originally going to post. He does a fairly exhaustive research into his track listings, at least as far as his rationale.

I'll try again and look for it.
