This one was recommended by a couple friends so Mrs DC got it from Netflix. I watched for a little bit but couldn't stand it - nothing redeeming about it at all as far as I am concerned.

RIOT IN CELL BLOCK 11 - Fun 50's prison drama scorcher directed by Don Siegel, with tons of familiar faces as inmates, including Alvy Moore!

SHORT WALK TO DAYLIGHT - Tight 70s TV-Movie about a small group of people trapped in a collapsed subway tunnel after an earthquake.

BRICK MANSIONS - English-language re-make of DISTRICT B-13 with Paul Walker. Bad acting across the board, which would be forgivable
if the action was good, but it's typically thrown away via shaky camerawork and overeditng.

No No: A Dockumentary -- several years in the making, great piece about the life and legend of the late Dock Ellis (yes, there is more to him than having pitched a no-hitter on LSD and wearing hair curlers in the dugout).

I'm VERY picky about baseball movies (ex-baseball writer, I've seen most of them and liked very few) and found this the rare trifecta -- extremely imaginative and creative, well-informed and honest, and both funny and moving.

Hoping the Academy pays attention for 2015 (although after their completely overlooking The Interrupters for documentary in its year of eligibility, my hopes aren't high).

Insomnia with Al Pacino and Robin Williams - I enjoyed it. That fog scene was intense and Robin played quite a character, as did Pacino.

Absolutely brilliant in places, but the low budget affects its freshness. Never knew that was Eve Plumb as Kalinga's wife! Picked it up when I heard them playing the Brady Bunch theme song when she enters.

A Most Wanted Man (2014) - low key, sombre, compelling.

The Rover. Very beautiful and very brutal. One way (though not quite accurate) to describe it is Mad Max taken to a more spare and introspective level. Many reviews don't do it justice, judging it on the basis of its post-apocalyptic surface, but then it's tough to discuss its much deeper meanings and ideas without giving away the absolutely key plot point revealed just at the end. The soundtrack is killer, but unfortunately doesn't appear to be available.

All Is Lost. Pretty cool to pull off an adventure disaster at 77 - and make it work.

Isn't the keel supposed to prevent rolling like that? I'm not a sailor but just wondering.
