End of Watch: a solid 4.5/5 rating, great performances from the two lead actors, the chemistry was excellent and the action is visceral and engaging, it feels like you're along for the ride.

  4. Goon. Not as good as Slap Shot, but pretty solid. And oh my, very violent.

Beasts of the Southern Wild. Meh. They should have left out the awkward magical realism parts, it would have been better as a hyper-realistic film.

`The Grey' with Liam Neesom. I remember that it got middlin' reviews
but I enjoyed it very much.

'Catwoman' with Halley Berry. Came across it channel surfing. I was so stunned by how absolutely awful it was I couldn't move to change the channel. I think I was suffering from some sort of extreme, emotional shock.

De Niro is so good in that. That's the most recent film I've seen, too (unless you count half of the old Bob Hope film, Casanova's Big Night).

De Niro hasn't been that good since at least the mid 90s. It was a great character - glad he played it and really brought his old A game to it. Saw him on Leno after - he doesn't usually do these kinds of rounds. He must be happy to be getting critical acclaim again. I hope this leads to more and better for him.

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane - 2006 above-par slasher film with Amber Heard. I would watch 3 hours of Amber Heard reading stereo instructions.

    The Coen brothers "True Grit".
Not bad. A quite understated, very low-key direction. I didn't like the way some scenes would just abruptly cut to others without really concluding. The "Fill your hands you son of a bitch" scene was difficult to appreciate as the John Wayne original is so engrained in cinema history. Hailee Steinfeld was superb as Mattie Ross . Interesting bonus feature about how they dressed up a city street for the old West town scenes.

Zero Dark Thirty. Good, accomplished work. First hour a little too difficult to empathise with any of the characters but a sufficient injection of humanity from that point on (without surrendering to Hollwood convention) to let the viewer engage.

Late last night i watched ''Inventing The Abbotts'' with Joaquin Phoenix, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Connely and Kathy Baker, great 50s period romance film.I'm surprised this film isn't more well known, it's got everything including some incredibly hot scenes with miss Connely, some of the most likable characters you'll ever see in a film and great acting by the whole cast, i really liked this one and highly recommend it.
