I love that, after after a lifetime of loving music, I can still be surprised by it. There's nothing quite like putting on something I expect to play in the background while I do something else, and then just stopping, because I can't do anything but listen. And then I have to play it over again immediately. And then again....

Anyway, this last happened to me a week ago when I played PJ Harvey's The Hope Six Demolition Project for the first time and got to track two:

Whiteout Conditions, most likely (New Pornographers). The new KL I like, but that one is more of a grower.

There are lots of seriously wonderful new records constantly, but the last one that really stopped me in my tracks was probably Bon Iver's 22, A Million.

Probably "Tunnel Vision," the last track on Kate Tempest's Let Them Eat Chaos, specifically the version I heard her play live last Wednesday.

The one in my signature, maybe not immediately, but it just gets better and better, so now is up there in the stunning realm ...

This album came out sometime in 2011, and, I LOVE IT!
Sadly, the following albums they made don't have the same 'vibe' as this one!
    Enjoy!

A truly great album with some heart wrenching lyrics. My candidate for album of the year so far.

Destroyer and Red Wing, Blue Wing are good starting points, those are also the first two tracks in this live clip:

Regarding 'new' music (stuff that's by new acts, from the past couple of years, presumably) then I loved last year's Cavemen album: Born To Hate. They fused the spirit of Iggy, Lemmy, MC5 & GG Allin together, fed it through The Damned's first album, and out popped a real f*** you slice of primitive r 'n' r. (It's not stunning - very little music is - but I think it's poptastically good.)

Stunned maybe not, for me, but I agree that after 40 years of collecting music I still hear something that makes a big impact.
My most recent are Joe Jackson's Fast Forward (from fall 2015), Van Morrison's Keep Me Singing and Colin Hay's Fierce Mercy.
I'm hoping Ray Davies tomorrow and John Mellencamp next week have the same impact!
