Wikipedia says the following: I only remember the version by Mac and Katie Kissoon. I'm thinking I might have first heard that version on The Big 8, CKLW, Windsor ON.
Actually, Middle of the Road's version was a cover as well. The original version was by the song's writer Lally Stott.
Now I know where Jane Child might have gotten some inspiration for "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" based on the voice and keyboard sounds.
Thanks for posting, I never knew his hit was a rerecording. The hit version conjures Buddy Holly.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDWM3bLEB3M
Not sure if this has been posted yet: First recorded by Junior Murvin in 1976. Bigger hit for The Clash in 1977.
Mac and Katie had the hit in the USA. Middle of the Road (the original) had the hit everywhere else. They were a Scottish group working with Italian producers. Very ABBA-esque, and this was a few years before ABBA got started. Lots of hits, but they just never clicked in America, even though RCA did release some of their stuff here. (The video below is another of their hits, not a contribution to the topic at hand.)
This Rodney Crowell B-side was a hit for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band under the name "An American Dream". Linda Ronstadt sings backup.
And while we're on the topic of Betty Hutton, here's the original (English) version of that Bjork song. Apologies for the added reverb - it's on all the YouTube copies.
The original version of Dion's hit. I've used this rather scratchy 45 because, unlike all the reissues, it's at the correct speed.
