Uh, it was already "booted" back in 1999....

Agreed. The first is a great stand alone film. The story was resolved. Neo discovered that he was "the one" who would save humanity. Everything after that first film was implied by the first film's ending. I saw the second film but didn't even bother with the third. No point.

The Architect did say that they destroyed and replaced the Matrix a bunch of times, and each had its own version of Neo, so I guess that opens the door for reboots...

I can never think of The Matrix without thinking of the 2003 MTV Movie Awards parody.

That's what the Animatrix is for. Actually I'd rather they would have made prequels to the first film using the Animatrix stories, over those awful sequels.

That would have been so much better, yes! :)

So of course they didn't do that. sigh.

This could be a waste unless they do something radically different with it.
Maybe a one man show starring John Malkovich.

I have no use for the sequels, but I watched the first Matrix again last night, for the first time in at least a decade.

I have to say, it made me a little uneasy...AI was kind of a geeky theoretical argument back in the '90s, but now we have people like Elon Musk and Bill Gates warning against it (people who could make a lot of money from it no less).

Interesting timing - I just happened to re-watch the original film, which I hadn't seen all the way through in at least 10 years.

    Two things I noticed:

    1) It has held up remarkably well in almost all aspects. The philosophical messages are more relevant than ever, and the revolutionary use of CGI is still impressive.
    2) Smith struck me as far more of a sympathetic villain than when I first saw the film as a teenager. He is arguably in a worse spot than even the humans.

It certainly does not need a reboot.

I have no problem with remakes as some are quite enjoyable, but I cannot get behind this...many may enjoy it so I won't wish it ill will...: )

Dunno about a reboot, but what happened to The Matrix 4K UHD that was supposed to come out ?

Failing that could they not at least do. new packaging for existing Blu Rays the art design looks wanting for something better.

If they're going to make one change, refer to the humans jacked into The Matrix as processors rather than batteries.

Which is what they were in the early storyline, anyhow! Makes so much more sense and explains why Neo can affect the matrix. The “new kind of fusion” that uses mammal brains was ridiculous. For all we know, the humans didn’t have accurate data about that, so it would be easy to continue on with the brains being used for processor power as originally intended.

Have any of the Wachowski's movies post Matrix done well at the box office? I haven't seen any of them and I thought Speed Racer was a flop...

    That would explain everything.
