Against a budget of 130 I would say that's quite bad. I would guess it's heading for a loss overall.

Seems to be getting bad reviews even the director and Jason Staham are making apologies for it regarding editing script changes / lack of blood. Shame didn't think it was going to be mega-good, thought at least amusing. Still go and see it, find a nice comfy seat, best a nap.:)

Think with the European /Asian market it will break even. Then there's media sales.

    Don't think so.

They say that the studio gets less than 50% of the ticket sales, somewhere in the region of 45% on average. So with a budget of 130 million (which I found staggering for a B movie) you need to take 290 million at the box office.

It's 45 million in the US, which will drop 50% next week, maybe it will make 100 million in all.

If we add another 150 million in for the rest of the world that's still 40 million short of just breaking even, and no way will it make that in media sales.

Take a look at the US box office most successful shark movies. Unless it's animated or Jaws then they don't tend to take much money. Why this film had a budget of 130 million is beyond me, that's a huge gamble.

    1 Finding Nemo BV $380,843,261 3,425 $70,251,710 3,374 5/30/03
    2 Jaws Uni. $260,000,000 675 $7,061,513 409 6/20/75
    3 Shark Tale DW $160,861,908 4,070 $47,604,606 4,016 10/1/04

Could be. It did 146.9 million globally, which seems crazy to me.

I read they expected it to do 30 million its first week in the US, so they are happy it did more.

I guess they must know what they are doing!

It has the now obligatory Chinese star, which would explain why it has taken 5o million in China alone.

But Wiki says that on top of the $130m production budget there was also $140million, $140,000,000, spent on advertising as well! A total of $270 million, which means they will have to take over half a billion dollars to break even. I can't see them doing that.

There's no way I'd see this now. I don't want to be thinking of sharks when I’m swimming.
