The live version of that song trumps the studio one by a mile.

For me is when they keep reissuing the greatest hits and they have pretty much the same songs

another greatest hits album that I think was well done was Pickin' up the Pieces the Best of Average white band, hits all the high points.
and luckily it's still in print.

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

But, I don't like how it uses the album versions of the earlier songs, and the single or radio edit versions of the later ones. the 45 of "Queen Of My Soul" is the same length as the album.

not one of the many Billy Joel comps out there have Sometimes A Fantasy, yet its B-side, All For Leyna is on a few of them

    Apparently, someone doesn't like it.

Records by Foreigner left of Blue Morning Blue Day and Headknocker, plus added an inferior, overlong live version of Hot Blooded.

The 2-disc No End In Sight collection did a much better job.

The Cars COMPLETE Greatest Hits trumps their original GH release by a mile and a half!

Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology is missing "Don't Let It End". Other than that, every major hit is included.

That's likely because of all the band tension concerning that song.

Sometimes politics play a big role in why something doesn't get on a compilation. Regarding those Billy Joel singles: i'll bet William Joel himself doesn't want them, much like The Doors don't really want their single versions out there.

What these artists seem to forget or ignore is that their fans want the singles versions, and if it weren't for the fans, they would be where they are. I find it pleasing that bands like Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night are happy to have the singles back out there for their fans.

They were actually upset over their 1979 hit "Babe" which remains their only number 1 single to date, and that one is included.

They were upset with almost anything Dennis DeYoung came up with by that time.

The Essential Billy Joel should have left off the Fantasies and Delusions tracks, he did not even play his own piano on those songs, as it was done by someone else (concert pianist Richard Joo) he just composed them.

Has Kiss ever had a perfect compilation?
The newest one, the 2-disc "Kiss 40" is decent, but leaves of some "Kissentials", Love Gun, Black Diamond, and Calling Dr Love, they used a one song per album rule on that one, leaving the above tunes MIA.

yes that is the best one currently out there, & I have that collection as well, but it's missing three essentials, the Ark, home and dry, and whatever's written in your heart

Picked up a beautiful mono Martha and The Vandellas GH's on script Gordy label today and no Jimmy Mack... maybe wasn't a hit til after GH's but that's such a great song not to have on there.

Waylon Jennings "Greatest Hits" omitted too many hits and essential RCA cuts, which always left me wanting more. It should've been issued as a double LP.

That whole Puff Daddy "Roxanne" remix was done to capitalize on the success of "I'll Be Missing You." Allegedly Sting himself had to persuade Puff Daddy to do the remix as originally Puff Daddy didn't want to do it. So we ended up with a very lazy boring flat remix that had NO imagination at all.
