Do you also like Ed's uncle Tim Maia? I'm listening to this "In Concert" album and i'm mesmerized by it's power!

They also released a DVD of this show. Here is a video of the song "Você e Eu, Eu e Você" from the DVD:

50 years ago was the beginning of the miltary dictatorship in Brazil (thanks USA...) that lasted for more than 20 years. Good to remember, here is a protest song from good old Chico (song was forbidden in Brazil after militaries "got" the true meaning of the words).

    Lucas Arruda - Sambadi (2013)

In a recent interview Ed Motta said that the next big thing in Brazilian music is this guy called Lucas Arruda. If you like Stevie Wonder and Curtis Mayfield you're gonna love this. You can buy or listen to the full album here: http://www.thepusher.fr/vinyl/lp/lucas-arruda-sambadi-lp.html

One of my favorite Brazilian musicians (probably not #1 for me, but definitely Top-3).

Yes, I confess I have that US version too. I like the sound of the Philips more. :)

Nice to see so much love for Brazilian music on this forum. Apart from some of the artists already mentioned (Uakti, Mutantes, etc), I'd like to add a few suggestions:

    - Boca Livre - Great acoustic/vocal group formed in the late 70's and still active today.
    - 14 Bis - Pop/rock group also formed in the late 70's.
    - Diana Pequeno - Too bad she's disappeared. She released some excellent albums in the late 70's and throughout the eighties. It will be nearly impossible to find her music on CD nowadays (what few albums and compilations have been released on this format are now out of print, but they might be reissued some day), but do try to hear her recordings, anyway.
    - Secos e Molhados - Their debut album (1973) is a classic and one of the best Brazilian albums of all time.
    - Kleiton & Kledir - A duo from my home state, in the south of Brazil.
    - Nei Lisboa - An amazing singer/songwriter from my home town who deserved to be more famous than he actually is. He's released several albums, all of them reissued on CD. Some are out of print, but you can find his songs on YouTube.
    - Simone - Stick to her 70's albums and you'll be safe. Try "Cigarra".

A few additions to my list:

    - Sa, Rodrix & Guarabyra
    - Sa & Guarabyra
    - RPM - Probably the most popular Brazilian group of the 80's. Their debut album is the one to get.
    - Kid Abelha

Incidentally, Roberto Carlos released an album in English in 1981, but his pronunciation is embarrassing even to my Brazilian ears.

"Juvenilia" from RPM is one of my favorites ever. Great suggestion.

From 80´s Brasil Rock I suggest strongly "Carnaval" by Barao Vermelho on vinyl. Sounds fantastic.

Emilio, este tópico é sobre Bossa Nova, mas eu gosto muito dos Titãs (primeiros álbuns).

The topic has long strayed from Bossa Nova to general Brazilian music, so I guess my suggestions are welcome, anyway.
