The underlying current of subtle surrealist situational humor (I just made that up) that flows through the show has swept over me, and I cannot get back up without grimacing like a loon.
    My mind is boggled.

Until that trio just appeared on my TV, I thought you actually meant to type “Singing Monkey Bits”... however, I was astonishingly incorrect... to my amusement!

    “Too modern”....?
When compared to the old original clunky classic, hosted by Chuck Barris...?

    Or perhaps...

Too Moderne”, trying just a smidge too hard to be self-ironic in humor, to win over Baby Boomers seeking the comfy swaddle of neo-nostalgia....?

I'm loving it a little less this season, I must admit. I'm not sure why. And that episode last week with Jason Sedakis was torture. The judges were giving everyone low scores, making children cry. It wasn't fun.

I love the hosts dance moves, and he's is deviously hilarious :agree:. It's such an upgrade from the other sad imitations of the old classic game shows on lately. the new match game??!?? Offal. No one these days can recreate the original match game, drinkin', smokin', and off color humor done right.

This show is the best out there right now.

Yeah, last week was actually the very first time I’ve seen this reboot. I’m completely on board with you - Sudakis’ delivery comes across a little too much as “The Cool Guy”....
...while giving the kids low numbers.

Hey Jason! You’re just scribbling numbers on a board! But you ain’t a judge on American Idol !!!

  13. I didn't know it existed until just now. It's syndicated, I presume?

I think it’s just on the ABC network.
    It’s too soon for syndication.

Perhaps ABC also posts episodes on the ‘net...?

I’m just kinda surprised there isn’t more “buzz” about this show... Very surreal.

    Frankly,
If I had to be critical of this relaunch, it would have to be the choice of the host.

    At First, I thought...
He’s just too plastic and fake for me. Waaaay too much makeup plastered on his face.
    Too much of some... thing.
    His jokes are kinda obvious.

True to the American TV trend, he’s got a thick British accent... Now That’s Original !

Yet, he’s the perfect successor to the Chuck Barris, the host with the most, that I recall, in all his charming, wincing, smugness.

Actually.... he IS the perfect choice for a show like this.

So, in the end, I guess there’s something to this Tommy Maitland guy, after all... ;)

Honestly, there are too many "ringers" - small-time "hip" circus acts/street magicians/art fair performers who I believe are making money doing their "act" elsewhere. They seem like rejects from America's Got Talent. The old Gong Show had genuine people who thought they had talent, whether they did or not, or a unique presentation that would make good television. The "ringers" on that version were bad, bad acts that many times were in fact writers and friends of the show, but gave the audience a good bit of entertainment. Paul Reubens, aka Pee Wee Herman, got his start that way as a somewhat "regular" on The Gong Show. The Unknown Comic famously was another.

And I thought Jason Sudeikis was refreshing in his judging, and very very funny. That 12 year-old archer girl he slammed actually ripped off her routine from a lady who has been doing it for years: even showing up on Late Show with David Letterman for a Stupid People Tricks segment:

The original show had it's share of ringers including famed Wrecking Crew member Tommy Tedesco and singer Gloria Lynne. I have not seen the latest incarnation.
