I'll concede he does emit a few, vocal clunkers but equally, there's a quality evident that soars and roars phenomenally; real 'air raid siren' stuff, at times and it just works sublimely with an awful lot of what they've recorded (in my v. 'umble, natch, m'Lud.)
Coming in June...this should be awesome. Anyone who saw the band on this tour would surely agree the band are in top form cranking out their Priest inspired heavy metal anthems. I dunno—the first Fight album and the first two Halford albums are great, as is the first Halford live album, but there are A LOT of not-so-great albums in this box.
I fully intend to get back to this thread full time but the KISS thread is taking up the lion's share of my time at the moment. Do carry on Metallions.
Kinda like Peart for the Rush meet n greets. I met Ian when I interviwed DP. He had a long list of people who were 'assholes.'
This is one of the awful aspects of contemporary, over-organised (i.e. 'marketed') shows (life) in general; 'meet n greets' - urgh! That such things are 'the norm' emphasises the awfulness of this plastic planet. When we encountered IG (ditto any and all other denizens of the ferrous) it was entirely by chance, unscheduled, involved no exchange of fiat currency and selfies were still some repugnant notion for a future shocked dystopia... (Every credit on interviewing the great man, however: that's some kind of heavy duty 'awesome.')
Being a 21st century (schizoid) boy I don't mind when I see that my digital garden threatens overgrowth (95% of capacity) and I take out the shears for some hedge trimming and general maintenance. The best part is the closer examination required for weed pulling and discovering a botanical delight that was either forgotten or previously appreciated (criminally) insufficiently. I instantly dropped my tasks and clambered aboard my GPS enabled horse and buggy, making a mad dash for my humble hut (that's a full four feet to the sofa) to indulge in this. Rubus Tomentosus (Blackberry) from the Vienna Dioscurides.
As we rode in the elevator back down to the lobby. On the way they discussed rehearsing 'Back Door' in Ian's room...I was tempted to ask if I could join them...
Last night at work (Dollar General) it was shockingly dead as a doornail. I played all kinds of stuff last night but only on a night like that could I get away with playing, in full, over the store's loudspeakers: I also played Pink Floyd's "Meddle" and "The Division Bell", some Oasis, and some Miles Davis
Really digging the new Royal Thunder album, released last week. Best female hard rock/metal singer in the past 5-10 years. Here's a single/vid.
Never heard of this band The Hunt from Toronto. Three albums: 1977 The Hunt, 1980 Back on the Hunt and 1982 The Thrill of the Kill. Definitely more misses than hits on each and the 1980 is the worst but still a few decent songs for connoisseurs of the obscure. Too bad the quality of the youtube feed is fully rubbish. 1977
Going against my usual, prejudicial grain, I must have a weakness for Swiss Thrash of this type: I also enjoy a cheeky dollop of Coroner (when the matron isn't on patrol, natch. )
Whipped out the gurgle search to read "The Swiss thrash trio Coroner were originally road crew for Celtic Frost. They eventually cut their own songs, recording their demo Death Cult in 1986 with Tom G. Warrior of Celtic Frost on vocals. Their first full-length album R.I.P., released in 1987..." How has that information escaped me all this time?!!!!! Well, to be rectified immediately! Speaking of Euro-thrashery this particular song has found itself in the mix for a few days now.
