    Slothrust.
I discovered these guys last year, but they've been around for years. I would love for them to get more notice.
They just released an interesting EP of covers, but this video is from their last proper album "Everyone Else", from last year:

Nataly Dawn. I don't know if she's known around here or not. Noone I know around here has heard of her and I found her music on youtube by accident. I have both of her albums released so far and enjoy them quite a bit. She'll never make top 40 radio because her music doesn't fit any preconceived marketing niche, but she has songwriting talent in my ears.

Since Vulgar Boatmen have already been claimed, I can go in a different direction for an L.A. band who suffered the curse of Hollywood Records but are still to my ears the best powerpop band I've ever seen. Here is their "Teen Wizards" tho picking one track was difficult:

You beat me to it. Saw him last year and he was in great voice. River is a classic album and Seed of Memory a great song.
I'd add Chris Whitley to the mix. He's passed on, but what a talent.

    Love,
    Billy

One more - The Tea Party. If you're a Led Zeppelin fan - especially tracks like Kashmir, Friends, Four Sticks and others that incorporate Middle Eastern/Indian influences, give these guys a shot.

British Sea Power - amazing live and on record. Every album has its high points but their debut The Decline of British Sea Power is extra special.

From their third album, Do You Like Rock Music?

I know this has gotta be some sort of stealth marketing, but...you DO know she is a YouTube sensation with her now-husband Jack Conti, as the pop/cover/kwirkathon Pomplamoose, right? Started getting snickers here because she appeared so spacey and non-outgoing in her earlier videos ("cute, though" was the comment I used to see the most), when the modus operandi was to make sure, somewhere in the videos, every part and every instrument got to be displayed in at least one shot?

Then they did major ad agency commercials, charitable promotions, some terrific marketing of themselves; they've done their own live YouTube broadcasts, and toured, and sold both downloads and albums...and then, the husband goes and starts a little patronage-artist-support site a la Kickstarter...and Patreon is born. And they've grown to over 60 employees. They also do something "like" management and artist promotion, where they philisophically "put their arm around" an artist, to get them started, sort of following Pomplamoose's path...

Yeah, I am a big Pomplmoose fan

Nataly was always her own artist, even when she got waylaid by Pomplamoose's success. She is on her second album by this time, right? First one released through Nonesuch (niiiice - went for the Majors!). She and Jack are not done as a duo, in fact Pomplamoose is back to marketing their new project even as we speak...which is not gonna slow Natalie Dawn up one iota, I suspect...

My one little-known artist is hard to describe. His stage name is, "That 1 Guy". And this is what he does....

I realize you deleted the comment about the words, but was just gonna mention that she reprises some of the lyrics from Blackened Cities for the "Gold Junkies" song on the next album, Lilies, which isn't too surprising since that song title is part of the Blackened Cities lyrics too. It's pretty cool, but can't get much better than Blackened Cities, that is pretty much perfect, the mood, the feel, the musicians, the vocals, very nice... she does seem pretty popular around here, though, but it's all relative, much more popular than some of my other favorites, that's for sure :)

No, I have no idea how popular she is anywhere. I first found her music on youtube, but that's the extent of my knowledge about how many people know about her music. I liked what I hear and bought her first two albums which I enjoy quite a bit. Noone I know has even heard of her.

She's working on her third album, an album of covers. I'm looking forward to it. I'm glad her music is popular. I'd hate to hear that she got nowhere and finally quit in frustration.

Yeah, I forgot that she does have some lyrics on Blackened Cities. My experience is that she's not too popular around here. But if I'm wrong about that, I can only say that these forums are not the real world, where no one I know has ever heard of her when I mention her name. Sad, but true.
    She is awesome! :agree:

Shawn Stelton has put out 4 or 5 CDs, plays from time to time in the Minneapolis area. Very funny live, his recorded music is a bit more serious than his shows but he is a very talented singer, songwriter and musician. He is a veritable encyclopedia of music from the 50s to the present.

No big, I think she's a nice pick for this thread, and agree about her awesomeness. And a quick search here shows 174 MDB posts versus 318 for my Richard Bucker pick (though the majority of those are probably my posts, and he has been around a lot longer than Melanie too :)).
