Love the look of the realistic man. Makes me think of the smell of old books read some realy good reviews on those speakers. Nice
Other Turntable started acting up. Speeds on both 45 and 33 not locking. Brought back in my Biotracer, the arm on that freaks out once in a while. Going to need a reliable table as my vintage turntables need work. I did spray deoxit on the pots and adjusted and the speed is locked again. Been a hassle lately though.
Silly question, but ... how do you post the pics? The site doesn't let me do it. Is there a size limit?
Shahinian Arcs are an American made speaker (Long Island I think) but are more commonly found in the UK. Not sure what % of production they export here. Current Retail for the speakers is £6000 ($7400) but they've been made since the 80s so you can pick up a decent pair of 1995-2005 vintage for around £1200 ($1500). The sound isn't for everyone but they have great realism, tuneful bass and a very clear sound. Some may prefer a more 3D soundstage which is a common criticism from those who don't get on with them. See Shahinian Acoustics Ltd. » for more info on the company and product range.
Just finished up some repairs on a friend's dedicated 78 player. The motor needed a cleaning / re-lubrication, and the headshell wires were replaced (now strapped for mono). Arm is balanced at 3g, and speed locks to a steady 78 now. I love making these old things work again.
I've posted this in the "Listening on Vinyl" threads about 20 times in the last week as well as the "Thrift Store Find" threads in "Long and Winding", but for the sake of this thread... Sony PS-LX520 Thrift store gem from last week for $18.50 for my living room system. It was filthy and the tonearm did not move at all when I brought it home. I cleaned and lubed the tonearm rail and cleaned some of the dried up grease from the mechanism underneath. I'm sure the rubberband belt needs to be replaced, so I got a new one on order, but for now this bad boy is working pretty great for me. The cantilever was slightly bent on the included cartridge: But I had a different cartridge that I had been using as a backup for years. Fortunately I also had a new stylus that had never touched a record in a drawer. Looks like this now: Spinning the new album from Kool Keith I'm super happy this sounds great! Better pictures will eventually follow.
I just added an Adikt to my LP12 last week and am loving it. It's a great tracker and it's very dynamic.
Yes I would recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality MM cartridge. The only drawback is with mounting on a non Linn arm you have to cut off the alignment posts off the top of the cartridge to fit flush with the headshell as the Linn headshells are predrilled to accept Linn cartridges. I have heard one on a Rega table and arm it also sounded great. I would take this cartridge over a similar priced moving coil cartridge.
My new Thorens TD 160 Super from Vinyl Nirvana. Peruvian walnut plinth, Nagaoka MP-200 cart. Self refurb Lenco L75 with Nagaoka MP-110 cart.
Its taken 7 months of development, but my request to Mirko Djordjevic to incorporate the Phoenix Engineering Falcon PSU Controller and Roadrunner Tack into a clone body of Micro Seiki RY 5000 Controller is complete and it works like a dream. Next step is to set it up with my Micro Seiki HS 80 flywheel.
I did the same thing once and thought my stylus then my arm suspension was a problem on my Thorens TD-126 before I discovered the wire. I had disassembled the arm mount but fixed the anti-skate while I had it apart!
