I got a Moerch UP-4 with the lightest wand (they offer multiple weight arm interchangeable wands as options) so I could use it with my Shure cartridge which has a very high compliance. It was fairly straightforward, though the instruction booklet that came with the arm left something to be desired. I had someone's help, who was familiar with the line. The original tonearm that came with the AR ES-1 was a good medium-mass unit specially made for AR by AudioQuest in Japan, I believe. It looks from the picture like you have that one on the turntable. It was tremendous value at the time I bought it in 1984 - I believe I paid $229 for it, on a trade-in. Retail list price must have been $299.
New addition to my Trio/Kenwood L-07D - an Audio Technica AT666EX disc stabiliser: I've had it on the t/t for a week now, and it has a wholly positive effect to sound quality, it terms of bass quality and depth, soundstaging, and instrument separation. It's definitely staying. Here's some blurb on the platter (I have the one with the battery operated pump): http://www.thevintageknob.org/audio_technica-AT666.html

I still think this is one of the nicest looking classic tables around. I really wanted one, but I found the Sota at a super deal.
Here's a picture of my Technics SL-1300. It looks like a brand new table from the front. I have a Grado Gold cart/stylus.
Thanks! Im a singles guy, dont do many albums, I have 4 1200s, but I dont like changing the record every 3 minutes, so this was the best middle ground ever. Sounds awesome. Just had to put new lube in it, will last another 30 years.
Blue VPI Traveler table going into a Optimus amplifier and Cayin speakers! (this is the system in my apartment not the factory)
Many thanks. I also have the Kenwood ceramic platter, which has a different presentation again. It's interesting how the L-07D responds to different platter treatments. More to the point, I now use the t/t for 80% of my music listening; it's completely addictive.
I remember when Kenwood began to advertise the L-07 - I was dumbstruck. I was somewhat familiar with the high end Micro-Seiko turntables (only through the audio press), and wowed by their stratospheric pricing, but this was a Kenwood! Yes, the same Kenwood that designed and manufactured my KT-815 Tuner (which I still have in primo condition). It just blew me away. I think it's great that folks continue to use and enjoy these vintage technical marvels. Color me Envious. Steve P.S. I have a Denon DP-750 Direct Drive TT with a ADC LMF-1 tonearm that is still very much in service, and I am planning to replace the plinth with a DIY plinth made out of a more exotic hardwood. I've been planning on it for quite some time, and I do believe the time has come:
No, it is acoustically sound, but if you were to see it in the flesh, so to speak, it has a somewhat cheap look to it, and you will notice a circular stain on the lower left corner that I have been unable to remove. I have always been impressed with the aftermarket/DIY plinths for vintage Garrards, Lencos, etc., and being that I am in the neighborhood of a mill that specializes in exotic hardwoods, I thought I'd give it a shot and fabricate a deck that is a bit more attractive.
Thats a beautiful thing, you get to stain it any color you want, or just leave the grain layers, Im jealous. Cant wait for you to show it off once its done.
Thanks. I wish I could have used the original motor but the two tone plith was way too thin (not high enough) and anyway that original motor is very hard to isolate. Very noisy.
Thanks Steve. Part of the reason I wanted one (apart from lusting after it for the past 30 years) was finding a UK-based business who specialised in realising the potential of these beasts. The repairs and refurbishment works I had done on mine are shown here: http://vantageaudio.com/info/KL1518.htm It was a full rebuild, including the PSU. Upshot is, I expect it to function as a new L-07D for many years to come
Wow! you, sir, do not mess around. Obviously you found the right people to do the job. I had absolutely no idea how complicated a design this table was (is). Fantastic.
After a long day of "rack maintenance" the TT is up and running again. Man, I need a camera. The phone does no justice to the phono. Apologies for the quality.
Pics were so bad I looked at your profile, I see you have a Lyra Delos....I am thinking of pulling the trigger, can you speak on it? I want to get into MC's. Thanks!
