That is crazy. Really warped. It makes me wonder how Steve Van Zandt did indeed manage to pull them all together. It sounds like one "particular party" (as it says on the Facebook page) has lost his marbles.... Arnie
I suppose I can understand $$$$$ differences......whether I agree or not......but the threatening FB likeness removal is ridiculous.
I honestly know nothing about Pink Floyd and their history, but what you said makes sense. An artist such as Felix can get more frequent gigs by touring with his own band. Ticket sales may not be as profitable as it was for The Rascals with all 4 members, but Felix isn't having to share a cut with Little Steven and 3 other founding members. There are enough city events, music festivals (especially Spring/Summer), casinos, cruise ships and county fairs which practically guarantees Felix will be able to work and earn a comfortable living each year. Since his band is called Felix Cavaliere's Rascals, I presume he is not having to lease the name from The Rascals' founding members as Mike Love has been doing with The Beach Boys. Mike Love is another example of an artist who saw the profitability in touring without the other founding members.
Yeah really. The clips aren't excatly fun either, perfunctory stuff. Too bad it's not 1972, someone with Bo Bice's voice would have been a feasible replacement then. In 2015 with what looks like no original members, what's the point? They're best days were behind them 40 odd years ago. They peaked early on and in more pronounced way than a lot of their peers.
http://flowerpowercruise.com/ Mickey Dolenz is now claiming to have been the lead singer of the Monkees. I think only Kantner/Felix are in the RRHOF and there shouldn't be too many Grammy's between these acts. Live Peformances by Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame & Grammy award winning artists, including: BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS featuring BO BICE FELIX CAVALIERE'S RASCALS MICKY DOLENZ - THE MONKEES LEAD SINGER (also serving as our cruise host) THE GRASS ROOTS THE GUESS WHO HERMAN'S HERMITS starring PETER NOONE JEFFERSON STARSHIP MARK LINDSAY former Lead Singer of Paul Revere & The Raiders THE TURTLES featuring FLO & EDDIE
Does anyone own the private pressing Live CD by Felix Cavaliere's Rascals? I'm curious to know how the sound quality is and whether it is a real silver replicated CD or a CD-R. There is also a seasonal studio album entitled "Christmas Joy," which is available in his online store. Years ago, I bought a live CD from Felix, which was also a private pressing. Probably recorded in the 1990s, the sound was good on it and he signed the front after the show. Sadly, my former spouse may have kept this disc. http://www.felixcavalieremusic.com/store
So, I guess I am not understanding what legal recourse Felix has against Joe Russo's Rascals pages (Rascals Archives and the FB page)? Pictures of the Rascals, heck even of Felix himself, are certainly not under specific protection where they can be prohibited from being shown, right? I see what people are saying regarding Felix being able to make more money on his own.....but at his age, what does the money really matter? Of course, he might not really like the other guys and that could be the underlying reason behind all of this. It just is sad. For Dino, arguably the quietest member of the band, to come out guns a'blazing, Felix must be acting more of an a$$ than ever. Somebody on the FB page mentioned that in the '80s, Felix did (or wanted to do) rerecordings of the Rascals songs for licensing use in commercials, etc. in order to undercut royalties from the others. That could be one of the things that started all this nonsense. I have audio of a Howard Stern interview Eddie and David did in the early '90s where Eddie insinuated Felix was trying to get the songwriting royalties from Eddie in some form or fashion....so there was that, too. Not sure if that was in court, but they all battled over use of the rights of the Rascals name which resulted in "Felix Cavaliere's Rascals" and Gene/Dino's "New Rascals." What a band nightmare.
Yes the whole situation sucks. The Rascals had a fair share of chart hits , but I'm not sure any of the band members are exactly rolling in silly money though, the songwriters included . Like anyone, if a person get used to a certain lifestyle they are going to do what they think needs to be done to maintain that lifestyle. Felix, being the identifiable voice of most of the Rascals hits probably has deluded himself into thinking he deserves a bigger piece of the pie , or he deserves to be the musical director and call the shots, etc. Then the other band members who aren't used to stroking Felix's ego get fed up and arguments ensue. I'll be the first to admit that this is all speculation on my part of course, based on reading the lines , and in between the lines of Dino's statement. I've always loved the Rascals and started the only Rascals album by album thread here, but it annoys me when these sort of spats between the band members drag on and off for ...decades. It reminds me of the on and off reunion stories about the Kinks. If these guys can't get it together as they head into their seventies I'm not going to worry about it anymore.
I'm glad I saw the reunion at Jones Beach. The concert was surprisingly not well attended. I remember thinking: "does the public not realize this is the only fully authentic 1960s band you can see live in 2013?" Sad to see it end this way.
Not people like we music geeks here, but I'm going to guess that the vast civilian population of the outside world probably is only semi- aware of "Groovin" at this point. I'm also going to guess that the vast majority of their casual boomer fans from the 60's don't deal with the hassle of going to any 60's band's concert anymore, with the possible exception of a once in a lifetime super biggie like Paul McCartney or the Rolling Stones. For the big acts they will suck it up one more time and deal with the parking hassles, crowds and ... staying out late.
If anyone has any doubts exactly who Dino is referring to in his FB post (and take a look at the new cropped photos): https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rascals/136891603002539 The Rascals Muscian/Band About: Members: XXXX XXXXXXXXX,Eddie Brigati,Gene Cornish,Dino Danelli Hometown: Originated in Garfield, NJ
I think a Gort should change the title of this thread to............. The Rascals have imploded...again...thanks to XXXXX.
He sang the majority of their big hits and best known tunes. Of such tunes, Davy only really sang Daydream Believer, Valleri and ALBYALBM - and only the first of these is even in regular oldies rotation. Micky had Clarksville, I'm A Believer, Stepping Stone, Mary Mary, Randy Scouse Git, Pleasant Valley Sunday, DW Washburn, Teardrop City, Porpoise Song. Again - CSN? Not that I'm going to go to a concert by someone based on their being "the only fully authentic 1960s band you can see live in 2013" if I was not otherwise interested.
If they are remembered at all at this point, the Rascals are looked at as a singles act that was popular 40+ years ago, and those kind of bands aren't going to move a lot of tickets in this century. I think it's safe to say the number of people that care enough to go to the effort to see them live at this point is very small. I like a few of their songs but have no interest in seeing them in concert.
Chad & Jeremy still tour...........so there's another still fully authentic 60s act. The Guess Who on the cruise aren't really much of the Guess Who. Burton Cummings has mentioned not to bother seeing them.
I saw them on the Broadway run. It was a great concert, and didn't mind paying Broadway prices for the small theater. I would have gone again, but not to a venue that was 10 times bigger just 10 weeks later. Did anyone see them at the Garden State Arts Center at the same time as Jones Beach? I thought I had heard that was well attended.
