Actually, René is the best artist. *

    It says so right here:

Well Gould was a Bach obsessive, the most celebrated interpreter of Bach not named Wanda Landowska.

I do wonder how much of Mozart's lofty status has to do with Amadeus. It was a terrific movie and gave a huge boost to Mozart's street cred, rather like the movie Sideways did for the wine pinot noir. But in its absence, I doubt Mozart would enjoy quite the same level of veneration.

When I was a kid in the pre-Amadeus 70's Bach, Beethoven & Chopin were the big three in our household (Chopin due to a bias towards compositions for piano) . To the extent that Mozart was mentioned, it was primarily for being a child prodigy, my folks hoping I'd follow suit. I didn't. :D

After further contemplation, I'm pretty sure it was that dude with the thigh bone and hollow log in the fertile crescent.
Way ahead of his time. He influenced EVERYONE who came after.

It's been reported that no one bought his records, but everyone who heard him got their own log.

If I had to choose between Bach and Mozart, I'd go with Bach. I generally prefer the Baroque period over the Classical, Romantic, or Modern when listening to "old dead people's music".

    Chopin

I put Rene above Chopin because he has a sign on a wall, but that position could change. Never count Chopin out.

So you're discounting Beethoven because he was born after Mozart. That doesn't even make sense.

You think that's something? You should hear the australopith who hit a rock against another rock! Changed the whole scene, had to start a new species just to comprehend it: Homo rocknroller

Were they indigenous rocks or did swallows carry them there? If so, we'll have to give the swallows producer credit.
