He might have found another band, but no way would it have suited his talents as well as the Mats did, at least during their formative years.

What's Luther Dickinson doing playing guitar here? Wow - never thought I'd see him pop up here!

He and Tommy have been friends for a long time. The Replacements' Pleased to Meet Me is actually the first record he ever played on.

Hmm - I never noticed that. I'll have to check my CD insert for his name. :targettiphat:

He talks about it a bit in this video. It's at about 5:30.

Luther was brought in to overdub the solo on "Shooting Dirty Pool." An outtake tape of his random solos (in isolation) circulates out there.

This and Red Wine are the only two songs from PTMM that I have not seen performed live.

Does anyone remember what song they walked out to?

In Forest Hills, it was"When You're A Jet" from West Side Story.

But I'm guessing that was a regional choice.

Ah, thanks. I just remember them walking out to something cool in Philly but I can't recall what it was.

Loved Tommy's only album as Bash & Pop from the 90s. Kinda Faces-like, pretty overlooked and underrated. Worth checking out if you are enjoying this thread.

I love Bash & Pop. One of my all-time favorite "cut-out bin"/overstock buys. Probably spent only around US$2-3 on that CD.

Also, check out his other band Perfect, they released 2 albums in the late 90's as well as his 2 solo records which are also fantastic.

I seen Tommy at Riot Fest in Chicago back in September with his new band. Played some new songs as well as solo stuff, Bash and Pop and Perfect material. Although didn't play any Replacements.

If the show in Chicago wasn't on a Sunday I would be there....

Don't get me started on how great that album is.

In LA it was Surfin' Bird for night two. Night one used a wonderful classical piece that I can't quite place. It was like a vintage RCA Living Stereo work, or London FFSS, and sounded really great. I need to find out what it was.

Another vote here for the greatness of that album. I gave it a spin recently and was reminded how many excellent songs are on it. He was definitely channeling a Faces vibe, no doubt also colored by his exposure to Westerberg (who was also a Faces fan). They played some nice live shows too. I saw them play the 7th Street Entry (capacity 180) circa 93 and the Bleeding Hearts opened (with Bob Stinson on guitar). It made for an interesting family reunion. I think that was the last time I saw Bob alive.

It was a good time to be a Replacements fans circa 92-93. We had excellent solo albums from Tommy, Slim, Chris, and Paul within that span of time.

Luther and Cody led a punk band called DDT for a while so not far removed from the 'Mats on that level at all

The show here in Portland was the second stop of the tour, so right after "I" which was Seattle.
