Did anyone other than me endure the interminable commercials on AMC to watch (and perhaps tape, as I did) "Island In The Sky" and "The High And The Mighty" on Saturday and Sunday nights? I'm aware that both will be available on DVD in another 2 weeks (actually, I already have them ordered), but I just couldn't resist them. I saw "Island.." as a little kid back in 1954 or 1955, and "TH&TM" in about that same time period in theaters. I've read a World War II-era "Pocket Book" version of "Island In The Sky" by Ernest K. Gann in the past 6 or 8 years, and the movie is quite faithful to the novel. BTW, the WW II-era "Pocket Books" were printed in a "landscape" format rather than the "portrait" format which has been in use since the late 1940's. Anyhow, I enjoyed the heck out of both, and even just watching on an older 25" color TV seems to indicate that both movies have been well-restored.
