I can't decide which format to proceed in. Sure, the DVD/CD pack gives the most bang for the buck, but I don't play live albums that much. I'm more interested in the video. Plus, I have more space available in my DVD realm than my CD realm. Do we expect all these titles get standalone DVD releases? Is Marquee getting a DVD only release?

Have the Stones fixed any tuning/pitch issues on any of the recent archive releases?

Declaiming Shelley in a dress then throwing half-dead insects into the audience is an incredible tribute to Brian Jones...

It's still at the wrong speed with poorly transferred audio.

I've had what might be a boot of this for some time. I didn't know that when I bought it, It looks so pro.
Excellent video & sound quality, The Stones were ragged on what must have been an emotional day for them.
Must have for Stones fans for historical content alone.
If I didn't already have this version, I be buying the new one.

Is it possible, given that this next one is stretching back to 1969, that we may have the possibility of Brian Jones Era releases coming too? The Jones Era shows might be too short, but they could put two on one disc. I'm beginning to think that some possibilities may be opening up for us fans. You see, I was extremely happy when the Marquee Club '71 show was announced. I've been considering the possible Allen Klein parameters for these releases. I've been under the impression that we could only safely get Taylor Era releases from '72 on only even though the Stones finally got free of Klein with the Sticky Fingers album (while sharing "Brown Sugar" and Wild Horses" with him). I had been worried that we weren't going to get any pre-'72 Taylor Era releases. Or do you people think I'm looking into this too much?

They already released the Jones era live show with Charlie Is My Darling. Honolulu 1966 would probably be the best live one after that, unless they release the BBC sessions.

    Hi John,
I hope all is well and thanks for all of your reporting. Yeah, I know about the Charlie Is My Darling release. But my concern was specifically with the From The Vaults series rather than ABKCO proper. I didn't know if Mick & Keith were under any legal restrictions as far as choices for releases by Era for Eagle. Yeah, I can see Honolulu '66 as a possibility as well as the old Paris Match boot. Plus, the band may miraculously have a a few boards from the Jones Era that they have squirreled away that we may never have heard about being in their hands. At least, that would be my hope.

My hope is that they don't stick to the audio/video format too rigidly though. There's some nice ones out there that are audio-only that are worthy of release.

I don't recall hearing about any video. Eddie Kramer recorded the El Mocambo material and it was edited when partially released on Love You Live.

I wonder if they will release Knebworth 1976 eventually. It also has a more interesting set list and was a longer show.

It would be nice if they did considering that a gazillion of us ancient Stones fans have had copies of this show for what seems like eons.

It would be nice to have a 1970 show in good sound quality since they were playing Roll Over Beethoven during that tour. I'm not sure if they have any in the vaults or not.

  17. Wait, what's this??? The original Stones played live gigs, and some were actually recorded? You gotta be kiddin' me - who woulda thought!:)

The likely problem with releasing audio only is illegal downloading on the Internet. The original downloads offered were cheap to discourage that. Physical product of an audio-only show encourages people who don't care about the visual or the CD or vinyl to download the material instead. Fewer people download and burn DVD or BluRay.

Klein has been out of the picture for 10-15 years due to severely declining health and his eventual passing. Jody Klein has been far more proactive with anything his dad owned.

I just watched the performance of "Mercy, Mercy" on You Tube. Yeah, it's pretty raw, but it still sounds pretty good to me. A rare performance of a Stones song I really like - I'll take it.

On another note I hope the Who pay attention and start releasing more of the live stuff available from their peak live years.

fmfxray373 Capitol LPs in the 70s were pretty good.

I think the Stones and Eagle Rock have figured out how to separate money from the 50+ crowd of aging Stones fans.

I know about the audio-as this provides side three of lyl... I was just commenting on your mention that they are only releasing stuff where video exists... I would love an el mocambo vault release...

But since you mention knebworth, there is also that Paris stuff from the 1976 tour that I think is quite alright, and it would probably clean up very nicely. I think it was some sort of a doc that was shot for European TV, as I remember some backstage footage
and interview things as part of the video that I have seen from that Paris run...

No Expectations, with its opening nicked from Child Of The Moon, is a wonderfully ragged track! This whole release is exciting.

Nope. Actually, it's The Stones who are in charge. Every time ABKCO wants to put out a new release, The Stones will have to sign off to it. That's why all the bogus Decca German releases etc. suddenly stopped during mid-eighties, because The Stones took action and agreed with ABKCO that all releases should be under coorporation. That also explains why ABKCO has only put quality products since 1989: The Stones are in charge of saying no. And Jody Klein is a good guy as well.
