Does anyone else think there should be separate "content" and "buying/shipping" threads for releases like this?

I have an SACD player and the remasters were initially just the SACD hybrids.

Surely at some point the law of diminishing returns must start to apply when it comes to re-transferring from the original / best available analogue sources yet again? If in 2002, following what seems to have been extensive archival research, the best tapes were painstakingly transferred to digital at high resolution it seems difficult to see what might be gained by transferring from the source tapes once more. I can understand the analogue purists objections somewhat - preferring no digital in the chain - but I would have thought the biggest factors likely to affect the sound in any upcoming release would be the mastering moves performed on any of those transfers, rather than the intrinsic quality of the transfers themselves? Many people here express preferences for CDs produced when A/D transferal was in its infancy and done at relatively lower resolution etc. because the mastering itself was well done. I'm highly sceptical that many people could tell the difference between a master tape and a well-transferred, flat, DSD copy of one.

OK, Obviously I am very late to the party, so I missed the great vinyl price through Amazon UK. I only woke up to this when Sound Stage Direct had it in the latest email flier. They have it at the usual list price (~$390), however, fortunately they have a 20% off vinyl sale going on so I ordered from them at $312. If I see something better before it ships I can jump on it, but right now that looks pretty good. The SSD website says:

Newly Remastered Mono From Original Archive Tapes

Cut To Lacquers At Abbey Road Studios By Engineer Sean Magee

Pressed Onto 180-Gram Heavyweight Vinyl LPs Supervised By GZ Media

I worry about the term archive tapes instead of analog tapes, and what does it mean that GZ Media is supervising the pressing?

Well my experience tells me it does, especially if you are sensitive to temporal masking effects and especially on tapes with known speed issues. Their latest analog tape transfer chain slayed Betty Cantor's 1/4" Ampex reels recorded on a Nagra IV-S at 15ips in the Grateful Dead July '78 Boxset, and I have listened to hundreds of Betty reels both Plangented and not (admittedly part of the improvement for that release was handling the Nagra Master EQ de-emphasis digitally for the first time). Born To Run out of the latest Springsteen box is a pretty good test, that and the 30th Anniversary edition are mastered pretty much the same but one was Plangented and the other not, the improvement is being much closer to the music on the tape.

I guess if you are talking staying completely in analog I suppose for vinyl you may have an argument as Plangent corrections happens in digital, but especially if you are going into digital anyway, and I suppose Plangent would argue their improvements would supersede staying all analog and again on these tapes I'd like to see what they could do.

It appears the vinyl was digitally sourced. Check out Analog Planet for details

That's okay. I'd rather talk about mixes, rather than price comparisons and shipping

I'd argue "these are the details behind the mixes used" and "my credit card has been charged" are two very different topics.
