Fly By Night (Can.) ANR-11002-A-1A-2HZ: DM 10 / ANR-11002-B-1A-2HZ: DM 14 has chimes for about 1 minute until it goes into the deadwax, after which there is no sound and no repeating chimes.
Beneath, Between, & Behind Sorry for the delay. Here is the Bill Kipper mastering of Beneath, Between, & Behind: https://www.yousendit.com/transfer....546007&email=97e89b810921b57d094e043850c50c3a
Thanks. Can someone chime in who has an older Mercury (pre-Anthem) Canadian pressing? Why would they do this in the US and not Canada?
Thanks for the needledrops. On a quick comparison, I think I like the BK pressing slightly more. It seems a little brighter. I expected to go the other way based on the reputation of GK pressings. Anyone else agree me on that or am I crazy?
Ok I am late to the party but I did not come empty handed I have a Dutch S/T Blue Mercury Label Deadwax: AA 6338 524 1Y 1 @1974 670 06 116 AA 6338 524 2Y 1 @1974 670 06 112 I also have the 1977 Canadian Reissue and the Rush Archives Pressing, I am needledropping all 3 right now, will prolly post samples tonight. I also have a Fly By Night with Masterdisk on both sides but neither G.K. or BK but what looks like a cursive lower case e
Rush s/t - Canadian Mercury Red Label Sorry to post out of order, but... My Canadian Mercury Red Label of the first album came in today. I was surprised that the deadwax had the Moon catalog number on it. Also, the ZRM is not a typo. This is the remix, not the original mix. The back cover has Moon, Mercury, and SRO logos on it. It is a very scratchy copy but plays all the way through with no skips. Sounds pretty good actually. A little lean in the bass department maybe. Rush CAN Mercury Red Label Side 1 MN-100-A Sterling Q Side 2 MN-100-B ZRM 1 1011 Q
Thanks for posting this. Sounds pretty similar to the GK upon first impression. I have two or three lower case 3 Masterdisks (non-Rush) also. It'd be nice to find out who did them. Oh well...
Caress Of Steel Next is Caress Of Steel. I have two: Caress Of Steel US Skyline Mercury Label Side A B-1 <-> SRM-1-1046-A-K2 Masterdisk AM Side B B-1 <-> SRM-1-1046-B-K2 Masterdisk AM I saw these initials (AM) in another thread recently but the name escapes me. Anyone? Caress Of Steel US Skyline Mercury Label Side A T1 SRM-1-1046 A2 CT V? Side B T2 SRM-1-1046 B1 V? CT would usually mean Columbia Terre Haute, IN but this is not a Columbia House pressing. Maybe Columbia did some fulfillment for Mercury from time to time. Anyone have any info on this? OK. Let's have your Caress Of Steel info...
Canadian Anthem label (darker blue to light blue) Side 1: ANR-1603-A script looking K-E-G (???) TLC-A circle w/CR in it Side 2: ANR-1603-B with a circled 2 to the upper right of the B TLC-T symbol looking like a G on its side followed by a weird S circle w/CR in it The CR would refer to Columbia Records but, it is strange that they would be pressing LPs for Capitol. Could this possibly mean Capitol Records? TLC refers to it being mastered at The Lacquer Channel facility in Toronto. Cheers, Chris Edit: Not to get ahead of things but, I just checked the deadwax on my Anthem copy of 2112 and found the mysterious KEG script there, too.
I'm a little late to the party, but just to cover all of the bases, I have a white label (which is actually a single color [aqua] skyline label) US promo of the S/T LP. The back cover credits Terry Brown with the re-mix, and the matrix numbers are as follows: A: (at 12:00)"SRM-1-1011-A-CT2 2T" (at 3:00) "MASTERDISK G.K." (at 5:30) "C4" B: (at 8:00) "SRM-1-1011-B-CTI 1T" (at 11:30) "MASTERDISK G.K." and at 2:00 there is what appears to be an upside down capital "V", it's definitely not an "A" Chip
Nope. Definitely CR in the circle. The C is to the upper left and the R is toward the lower right. Cheers, Chris
My US copy of CoS has: Mercury black label Side 1: SRM-1-1046-A-K and then a MASTERDISK stamp w. initials HW (Howie Weinberg) Side 2: SRM-1-1046-B-K no MASTERDISK stamp, no initials. I gave this a spin not too long ago and was a little underwhelmed by the sound (although it could have been the fact that I have a noisy pressing ) much preferring my West German Atomic CD which is very smooth and crank-able. A GK of this does exist, correct? I'd love to hear one to compare.
Do you prefer one of your copies soundwise over the other? At the very least, I will keep searching for a 2 sided HW. I am curious about the sound of your AM (sorry, don't know who that is either). Also, are the skyline labels earlier pressings than the Mercury black labels?
My Archives is GK for s/t and Fly By Night. There are no initials for my Caress of Steel. Can you check yours when you can? Thanks.
At this point, I prefer the original CD. I'm not in love with either of the records. I'll listen again tonight. If I get a chance, I'll post samples. RE: Skyline / Black Label W.B. stated in another post that Mercury started using the Skyline label in August of 1974. I believe the black label came into use in 1983. http://stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=875647&postcount=14

Stefan, Thanks for joining us. Are you happy with your copy of Caress Of Steel? Also, I didn't realize that the Masterdisk masterings made it up into Canada. Cool.
Oh I was here (I asked about the mysterious T.G.), but just pre-occupied with the new cartridge. Yes, I believe the Mercury pressings were shared for awhile until Anthem got going in Canada in '77. And yes, the chimes at the end of my By-Tor do continue in the deadwax.
