I had a vg+ copy of this Lp with masterdisk on one side and Gk on the other.Sold it and found a Masterdisk GK on both sides and plays dead mint.Poster included too.
Nice! Earliest Gold Stamp I have is Signals. Can't say I've ever seen one of those. Have a UK version of Hemispheres with gold stars but never came in contact with the US promo. Does it indicate it's promotional on the record label? I'm going to guess no, but I'd just like to know for sure in the interest of science.
So I bit the bullet and bought the Power Windows "The Big Money" promo disc today...they discounted it down to $15. Will clean and spin later on today. Here's what I've got: Jacket front label at the top says: "The Big Money from the forthcoming RUSH Album Power Windows 826 098-1 M-1" PRO-382-1 PROGRAMMERS: WARNING! This song has a false ending. Actual ending faces out. Jacket back bottom right corner has the gold stamp "LOANED FOR PROMOTION ONLY Not for Sale Ownership and All Rights Reserved" The label on both sides says the following... On the left of the spindle hole: SIDE 1 33 1/3 RPM DIGITAL STEREO 016 On the right of the spindle hole: PRO-382-1 (2-58580) Promotional Copy Not for Sale Matrix Numbers on both sides: PRO-382-1-2-58580-ES MASTERDISK The engineer mark is a tough one to decipher. It looks like either "Cmw" or "Lmw" and is very jagged. I'm not coming up with any good candidates for this, if anyone can help out I would appreciate it!
I can make out the "C" I think. I found the mark more "squiggly" than "jagged." Looks like I have the same pressing. I also checked my Anthem SPE 028 and I could only find a MASTERDISK stamp besides the SPE 028 engraving
Best candidate I’ve found for that mark is Electrosound Group Midwest. It’s an “Emw” all linked together. On Discogs there is a flyer for Electrosound and it lists PolyGram as one of their customers, and PolyGram manufactured and marketed Power Windows, so it is logical to assume that limited run promo copies were pressed at their Shelbyville, IN plant.
Picked up a sweet US pressing of Rush today. Sounds amazing and very clean Side 1-deadwax-SRM-1-1011-A-CTI-T Masterdisk-GK Side 2-deadwax-SRM-1-1011-B-CTI-T Masterdisk-GK
Yeah, I mean the GK is supposed to be one of the better pressings of that album. I bet it sounds good!
I just picked up a copy with GK and Masterdisk on one side and SRM-1 on the other. It's the first US-listed Hemispheres on Discos so I am wondering if this is a true Masterdisk/G.K. (R.L.???) or if there have to two Masterdisk/G.K. inscriptions. Haven't listen yet but in the shop it played very quiet.
GK Hemispheres has been popping up a lot more often in the last few years, but it’s still a cool find whenever they do appear. IIRC there should be masterdisk GK on both sides, but I’ll try to remember to check this weekend. Another way to check is to compare the etched letters and numbers to see if the handwriting matches on both sides. Either way enjoy!
GK cut both sides. The pressing plant probably used what they considered to be the best plates at the time... matching plates was never really a consideration back then.
Duly noted! Btw, re: the handwriting. Was Bob Luwig rumoured to have anything to do with the cutting? (I forget now who G.K.stands for but surely anothe engineer.)
I just spun my GK Hemispheres and concentrated on Geddys bass throughout the song, now I've listened like this many times before, but it gets me every single time. One of sickest bass lines ever played.
Re: Hemispheres Just got through a UK 1/1 - 2/1, Trident press of this title yesterday. I knew from lessons learned to trust the liner notes (when available) for the initial mastering of Rush. Wow, I thought my Kong press was good. EZ to tell that GK worked from dupes. Harrier bass, better instrument separation, smoother vocals.
