I'm doing some indie work for a Searchers project.. I love the band but it's hard to get the proper information. Below, both videos are from The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, correct, with the original bass player, Tony...

Is this correct information?? This is CBS/Ed Sullivan video? It is hard to get anyone to go on the friggin' record (no pun intended)..

    Thanks!

Looks right to me. Original bass player Tony Jackson known around Liverpool as Black Jake.

I always thought this sounded like the name of some gangster: 'Needles' Enpinza. Wouldn't want to know what earned a handle like that.

    To answer the OP question-
Yes, they are both Ed Sullivan CBS. Both are on 'ED Sullivan's Rock and Roll years' by SOFA.

An awesome band and one of my all time favorites. Wasn't there supposed to be a new box set coming from the archives?

In my top three bands for sure (Beatles and Hollies are the other two) - some of their albums/singles are criminally neglected. Any news of another Searchers project is good news!

A great little group from Merseyside. Was listening to The Searchers "The R&B Sound" this evening. It's a comp with a focus on the 'harder' stuff from The Searchers, and it plays like a rockin' Merseybeat album. Closed my eyes and imagined I was in the Iron Door Club circa 1961-2. Great stuff.

    Love Merseybeat!

Enzio - that's the guy. And "Needles" was Armando "Needles" Nidillo, an enforcer who worked with Joe "The Animal" Barboza in the Boston area.

The Searchers' "Umbrella Man" is one of my definite "shoulda been a hit" singles from the Sixties. What a great song :)

Looking forward to a Steve Hoffman (indie) Searchers project~!

Their performance at the 1964 NME Pollwinners Show at Wembley is nothing short of stunning. Unlike their records, which are mostly well-crafted yet fairly tame pop, on stage they could be a ferocious rock'n'roll band that could Mach Shau! with the best of 'em.

Check out Chris Curtis STANDING UP while playing drums and shouting "What'd I Say"!!!!:

    Love the Searchers, always fun.

I heard this DC5 tune the other week and noticed it sounded much like the Searchers:

I could easily see the Searchers doing this one.
