This is one kickass live album. With original lead singer Tony Jackson.
The Strypes covered I Can Tell from this one.

    Much Thanks.

  6. I was familiar with the Searchers long before the Beatles - my Mom was really into them and as a tot I took a shine to a domestic comp of theirs called, rather originally, Meet The Searchers.

I LOVED their pair of late 70's albums for Sire….the second one, Love's Melody or Play for Today in the UK, had some great great pop songs and inspired covers…...had a chance to see that lineup in a Philadelphia club in the early 80s, and stayed for both of their sets and got to talk with the fellas, a great honor!

  9. just think if the beatles at the star club album sounded this good

I'd like to hear that one. It's one I've missed all these years.

    "I Can Tell"
was kind of a Beat Era standard IIRC. I used to have a 1962 Bo Diddley LP that had the tune on it.

It's Too Late was a fantastic powerpop tune. I'd like to track down the 45 rpm release of that.

Amazing list! I had no idea the Cryan' Shames were from Liverpool - fantastic group! It's pretty incredible the way the Beatles opened the floodgates.

I don't think anybody was trying to insult other Liverpool bands. Just because a band isn't great doesn't mean they aren't very good. It's like you think "great" and "rubbish" are the only two choices. The OP was simply saying that he thinks two bands stood above the rest during time of the British Invasion.

Yeah, it's not just The Searchers and The Liverbirds, you know.

How can we forget Sonny Webb and the Cascades, Earl Preston and the TTs, Freddie Starr and the Midnighters and Denny Seyton and the Sabres? Their memory will shine forever.:)

    My favorite Searchers song......................

I'm going to a British Invasion concert next month. Mike Pender is one of the five acts.

They weren't....they were from Chicago. The Cryin' Shames (notice the i) were though. The American group has an "a", the English group has an "i".

And one of their greatest recorded performances. IMO. Searchers wall of sound with a great overuse use of reverb/echo on everything. :righton:

This was the record that introduced me to the Searchers in 1979, and is absolutely one of the most criminally underrated albums of that time. Hooks, incredible melodies, harmonies, and ringing guitars galore, I recommend this to anyone who loves pure pop music.

  22. This album was a common find in early '80s bargain bins.

I remember that, because I bought it along with Love's Melodies for $1 as cut outs.

Absolutely ridiculous, but the bargain bins were rife with great records, just as the Top 40 is usually littered with garbage.

Good one, but for me, the next record, "Love's Melodies" was killer!

I'm with jjrc, the first Sire lp was good, but didn't completely grab me, but Love's Melodies was awesome….title track was a great version of the Ducks Deluxe tune and better than the original….and anybody who covers Moon Martin, Big Star and John Fogerty HAS to be great!!!!
